I've got 11 for Javier (good call), 10 years of Schiendienst, 7 years of Herr.

Howie Kendrick hit .295/.336/.409 with 9 HR last season and got $20/2. Wong hit .262/.321/.386 with 11 HR last season and just signed for $25.5/5. It's a great deal, even if Wong stays at the same level for the next five years.

If the terms listed above are accurate, that's a great deal for the Cards.

5/$25.5M guaranteed seems like a steal, especially with his shown improvement thus far.

Nice job Mo!

Love this deal. If he stays where he is now, he will likely be worth it. If he improves, he will be worth well more than he makes.

Doing some research for this week's Redbird Dugout column on Wong and I found this was interesting. Much is made of Wong's second half slump, but...
However, the facts aren't as bad as the story usually gets told. Following the All Star Break to August 22nd, Kolten Wong played in 33 consecutive games and hit .198. Why do I stop the sample at August 22nd? Greg Garcia was called up on August 23rd, Wong got two days off before returning to the lineup on August 25th. He hit .287 the rest of the way.

Interesting fact indeed. Undoubtedly prompted Gyorko's signing. All players need to stay as fresh as possible to make it through the grind.... 8-)

Cards appear to have a ton more confidence in The Wongster than a couple of us have had.

Looks like the periodic Carp back to 2B conceptual chats can stop now.

I think it's a good, sensible signing. If he continues to develop like I think he will, you have him wrapped up at an affordable price. If you decide you want to trade him, you can and his contract isn't a limiting factor.

Think we could fleece Boston into taking one more contract off our hands?

Kid needs to absolutely tear it up down there. This is a career-defining moment of truth.

I still think it's a good deal.

Wong was about to drown in a lack of playing time. Until mid-August, they can move him back and forth without dealing with waivers, so the opportunity was right to get him down there and playing regularly to fine tune the swing change. Tell him to learn center field while he's down there too.

It gives him an opportunity to get right and then the Cardinals can see where they are in a couple weeks and where they need him.

Let's be frank about WHY he was about to find no playing time - because he's not very good. As you said yourself, he's had plenty of opportunities. Neither Greg Garcia or Jedd Gyrko are second-comings of Jeff Kent. That's who distanced themselves from Kolten & buried him. And now that Diaz found an opportunity by double-injury and then performed, there's no place for Kolten. None. Unless Peralta, Carp or Garcia, perhaps even two of them simultaneously as all have multi-position proficiency, end up on the DL I don't see an opening for Wong.

What will potentially put him back in St. Louis is all on Peralta IMO. He has to hit, he has to hit well, he has to be an offensive difference-maker. If you look at offensive difference-making down the stretch last year neither Peralta or Wong are high on the list.

STLPD Article sums up my opinion - huge moment of truth in Kolten's career:

Bernie said it this morning on the radio. He falls in line with other young guys who start hot (a lot of people thought he should have been an all star last year with his first half), then struggle mightily. It is all about how you respond to it. Will he be like Diaz last year when he got designated for assignment then exploded? Will he be like Adams who has struggled for about 2 years but things are coming together this year? Or will he just completely fall off the map? I believe in his talent and think this will put a fire into him that will help him improve and be our starting 2B for years to come. But only he has control over that.
