Give us just a .500 record at Home & we'd be a lock.

Last year worked well because, I feel like anyway, the guys getting hurt were the guys struggling and the young guys coming up held their own.

This year's been a little more difficult in that regard.

Injury Updates from STLPD:

Aledmys Diaz, playing on a medical rehabilitation option (fractured right thumb) for Class AA Springfield in the Texas League playoffs, was two for four with a run-scoring double in Game 3 of the series Friday night in Springdale, Ark. Diaz has played just two games in the field since returning to action and only four overall, counting a couple as a designated hitter at Palm Beach, Matheny said, “Just being healthy isn’t necessarily the answer to everything right now. We also have to get his timing right, get him confident with how he feels at the plate.”

Rosenthal, out since late July with shoulder problems, will face some Cardinals hitters in a simulated game setup on the field on Saturday and Wacha, battling a another stress reaction in his shoulder, isn’t too far behind that program after throwing another bullpen session on Friday. Wacha and Rosenthal would be welcomed in the bullpen but Rosenthal said, “We’ve already got, like, 25 guys out there. It might be hard to get a spot.”

Maness, who had elbow surgery last month, is back in the clubhouse. The damaged ligament he had was just tacked down, so the time he will miss is about half of what it might have been with Tommy John surgery. Maness said he would begin a throwing program here in December and then plan to go to Florida. But whether he will be going there with the Cardinals is problematic. He will be a second-time arbitration player and he made $1.4 million this year, with the likelihood of making a bit more than that next year, if the Cardinals choose to tender him. They may not, allowing him to be a free agent. But Maness might have to settle for a minor-league contract either with the Cardinals or somebody else.

Holliday (fractured right thumb) took fly balls before Friday’s game but still has not participated in hitting drills outside.

The closing of Mike Shannon's restaurant in downtown St. Louis resulted in fewer dining spots, but it has created more collectible memorabilia.

Many items that had previously been on display at the restaurant, which closed in January, now are being sold in an online auction at Lelands.com.

The marquee item — Stan Musial's autographed jersey from his last game in 1963 — is now at $10,000.

Along with a number of Shannon-related items, such as home run balls from the 1964 World Series and game-worn jerseys, other items include autographed pieces from Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Mark McGwire and Dizzy Dean.

If I was a rich man... that would look really nice in my office.

Musial's Jersey has been pulled from the auction. Perhaps Cardinals were able to secure it for their HOF?
