Cubs have won 3 straight over Brewers, play again this afternoon. The ONLY games Cubs have lost THIS MONTH are 2 to us.

With Pitt beating SF yesterday, it also puts us 2 back of the WC1 spot.

Seth Maness' surgery on his ulnar collateral ligament Thursday went well, in two aspects. It was a successful operation -- and it wasn't Tommy John surgery, as had originally been scheduled.

Rather than replacing Maness's injured ligament with another -- the Tommy John procedure -- doctors only repaired the existing one, drastically reducing his recovery time.

Recovery from Tommy John can take anywhere from 12-18 months. Matheny said Maness could be back in half that time, by Spring Training next year on the early end.

Hazelbaker pinch-hit for Leake in the eighth inning and hit a two-run home run off of the facade of the second deck at Philly on Sunday. That marks the Cardinals’ 14th pinch-hit home run of the season, tying the major league record held by the 2001 Dbacks and Giants,

Who would have thought we'd see a power surge like this from the club this season. It's been unreal.

One HR from Pham away from having 10 guys with at least 10 HRs. Peralta is four away from making it 11 if they both get there. Not sure what the record is for players with 10+ HRs but they've got to be getting close.

The record is indeed 11, set by the 2015 Astros and the 2004 Tigers.

After a 6-for-9 weekend Jhonny has his average up to .322 for August. Keep it up Jhonny!

After a 2-hit day yesterday Greg Garcia has his August average up to ......... wait for it ...................... .113 !!

Hazelbaker's OPS for August a whopping 1.251 - 3 HRs in 23 PAs.

The Angels will hire St. Louis Cardinals scouting cross-checker Matt Swanson as their new amateur scouting director, according to a source who requested anonymity because the move has not been made official.

Given what I heard yesterday, it sounds like Lynn and Walden have both been ruled out of returning this year.

And it sounded on yesterday's broadcast that Wacha may not return either.

And Leake to DL:

The Cardinals placed right-hander Mike Leake on the 15-day disabled list with shingles, retroactive to Aug. 22, on Monday and called up left-hander Dean Kiekhefer from Triple-A Memphis.

Glad the club doesn't have this mentality. Are you following along? I'll give you the division, but there's plenty of time to sow up one of these WC spots. Heck, they've got the 2nd spot and are only two back of the first spot.

Granted there have been a lot of injuries, set backs, and mind boggling losses but this team is still in it despite all of that.

It's weird. I thought the Cubs beat us in the playoffs last year. But according to CF4L, they were never in the playoffs since they only won the wild card. I must have misremembered.

The Cardinals are 26-20 since Matt Carpenter got injured on July 6th. That's good for the second best record in the NL (5th best in baseball), five games behind the Cubs.

Since then, Moss, Carpenter, Peralta, Rosenthal, Diaz, Lyons, Wacha, Adams, Holliday, Maness, and Leake have all been on the DL. Piscotty, the best of the healthy players, has hit just .253 (compared to .292 before).

I'd say we're doing pretty well this year, actually.

With the callups & misfits we've been forced to play the genius of Mike Matheny has kept us competitive.

Give us just a .500 record at Home & we'd be a lock.
