Mike Mayers will make his MLB debut tomorrow night.

Sounds like the 16 inning game threw a wrench in the plans to basically have a bullpen game.

Cardinals option RHP Mike Mayers to Memphis, purchase the contract of RHP Jerome Williams, and move RHP Jordan Walden to the 60 day DL.

Walden's move was purely to create roster space since he's already been on the DL more than 60 days, so it doesn't affect a potential return date. Walden threw some long toss over the weekend and could throw a bullpen this week to being a hopeful return. He'd be a big addition to the bullpen if he can get healthy for us down the stretch.

Holliday is 1 for 13 in his last three games. He hit .224 in June, hitting .186 in July.

Delivers big hits, meaningful power. Leads team tie with Moss for HRs (17) & 2nd in RBI, 56, 2 behind Piscotty. But really s t r u g g l i n g.

Apparently the starter for Saturday will be .............................. Jaime Garcia on 3 days rest.

Threw under 80 pitches Tuesday night, gonna roll him out there Saturday.

One might think the absolute beating that Mayer took on his callup debut had some impact on their decision making. Don't wanna see that happen to another guy, it was brutal. The irony is Cards were only team in MLB who'd only had starts by 5, Mayers was only the 6th starter this year.

Should have been Lyons last time. Should be Lyons this time. Just make the guy unavailable and prep him for the start. It's not that hard. Does anyone need to be reminded what he did the last time he started a game?

Or even Jerome Williams. Who has 9 starts in Memphis this year, a glut of MLB experience, and hasn't pitched in eight days and was called up four days ago.

I just don't understand the need to get cute with the rotation.

Lance Lynn has thrown seven live batting practice sessions and will continue with those through the end of August, He's also throwing off the bullpen mound regularly, as high as 45 pitches in some sessions. He is not expecting to make it back this season, but is not ruling out the possibility Matheny said Lynn was "further along that I thought he'd be as far as the intensity" after watching Lynn's bullpen session yesterday.

A healthy Lynn would be a tremendous boost. No one wants him to rush back, but the thought of having him available out of the pen could be huge.... 8-)

Maybe there's hope, but I think, unless you can get him on a minor league mound in August a few times, I wouldn't considering bringing him back this year.

Peralta expected back from DL today to play SS as Diaz goes to DL.

Moss expected back from DL today as well.

Lyons put on the DL. Kiekhefer called up again.

At this point, Kiekhefer has probably spent more time on a plane the last two weeks than he has a mound.

Over his first three games w/Springfield Carp is four-for-eight with a walk, two strikeouts, and a HR.

Luke Weaver has been bumped from AA to AAA. Might not be a coincidence it happened right after Lyons went on the DL.

Carp was 0-fer-4 last night, concluded his Rehab Assignment in Springfield, going 4-for-12 with a home run, a double, an RBI and two runs through the four games that he played.

So in all of this calling Reyes up and saying Weaver will make his debut on Saturday, Mozeliak admitted that Wacha's injury is related to the stress fracture from 2013 and that a 200 IP/starter role for Wacha would need rethinking. Really big news for the organizational plan.
