Considering the Wild Card race this is actually Cardinals News:

The Marlins announced that both right fielder Giancarlo Stanton (strained left groin) and starting pitcher Adam Conley (left third finger tendinitis) were placed on the 15-day disabled list. That means Stanton and Conley join first baseman Justin Bour , starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen and closer A.J. Ramos as key regulars on the DL.

Can't remember who said but one of the announcers from a game I was flipping around between earlier said that Stanton may actually be done for the season as well. That would be a huge blow to the Marlins.

Maness is headed back to the DL with a right elbow strain. Tuivailala gets called back up.

If Grichuk article in STLPD & MM's quotes in it accurate sounds like Pham won't be getting much playing time.

Nope. The handedness of the roster doesn't help him either. This is total irony actually. Because a few years ago if Adron Chambers was right handed, he'd have had a ton of playing time. Instead we got Shane Robinson. Now we've got a good right handed fourth outfielder and he's boxed out because he's not left handed. I expect Hazelbaker will have more playing time.

Because if you're getting righties out of the lineup, you're not going to put Pham out there. And if you're trying to get lefties in, he's not getting in either. Honestly, his only hope is that Gyorko craters so that Carpenter has to play third, which moves Moss to first, and Mike needs another right handed bat.

Holy crap. Seth Maness headed for Tommy John surgery. Did not see that coming.

Matt Holliday will have surgery on his thumb too.

TJ puts Maness out at least a year doesn't it?

I had heard surgery might be an option for Holliday a couple of days ago, hadn't heard anything since so I'd hoped it wasn't going to come to that. I'm assuming he's likely done for the year now too.

Holliday & Maness article:

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball ... bdaeb.html

Also mentioned in the article is Jordan Walden beginning a rehab assignment. Interesting.

Maness is the 12th Cardinal to hit the DL since July 1st. Wow!....

Matt Holliday is heading for surgery after yet another up-'n-in HBP knocks another Cardinal starter to the DL. The Cubs, continuing to struggle with their Red-Headed Stepchild Complex, hit Holliday on Thursday night and broke his thumb. After seeing Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Aledmys Diaz get his thumb broken a couple weeks prior on a HBP up-'n-in by Andrew Cashner, the Cubs followed suit and knocked out Holliday. Ironically, Cashner had hit Holliday in the face with a fastball a week prior to hitting Diaz and was unable to push him to the DL, he was back in the lineup the next day. Looks like the new strategic model is to break bones. After 5 consecutive Cardinals postseason appearances including 3 Division Titles, 2 World Series appearances and a World Championship other teams have been throwing up-'n-in at Cardinals hitters recently with alarming frequency.

Holliday will have surgery tomorrow and recovery from the surgery could end his season. Seth Maness, added to the disabled list just this morning with what was thought to be an elbow strain, will have Tommy John surgery on Thursday in St. Louis.

These latest two bring the total to twelve DL stints for the Cardinals since July 1st - one player to the DL every 3 days!

Yet, the Cards keep putting cut-'n-paste lineups on the field every night and are currently tied for the 2nd Wild Card. Whether or not they can continue to hang in there with such voluminous injuries only time will tell. The biggest shame of all are the haters and internet tough-guys out there who continue to bash Cardinal manager Mike Matheny. Over two of the last three seasons Matheny has had his rosters decimated by DL stints, lost multiple starters for entire seasons, has used record numbers of callups and been forced to lead the League in different lineups. All he's done is win by doing more with less than any other Manager in MLB. Yet he's never been strongly considered for NL Manager of the Year. Instead, he's been repeatedly rated middle-of-the-pack by National Newswriters and constantly criticized, slighted and disrespected by the National media as well as his own fan base. Haters gonna hate.

Likely. Though Lynn's back on the mound in 10 months. Could see Maness being a late season addition next year.
