Blackmon on his way to STL? Cmon Mo!

Did you read this somewhere hardy?

No, lots of speculation because Desmond's bat doesn't play well at 1B, they have an overload of OF, in particular LHH OF, the Cards have been linked to Blackmon, and the Rockies still need pitching. I thought I was in the other thread.

chirp chirp. chirp chirp

that's the sound of 2017 as of this point, not going anywhere or doing anything to even attempt making the playoffs? Time to go on full rebuild and suck it up for ten years? Don't want to be one of those teams in the middle of the league praying for the WC as your only chance of getting to the playoffs via "play-in"

All the good options are off the board, I'm not sure we could trade for Cain or Blackmon at this point if we wanted to (sounds like Reyes is the starting point for everything). Dexter Fowler is now in the driver's seat to the Cardinals' offseason and since there are no other options on the table, he has no need to rush into signing anything... without making it worth his while.

Cardinals are at $60/4. He wants $18 per. Call his agent up, offer $72/4 if they're willing to just go ahead and get the deal done.

The Cards are paying Pena $2.5 million not to play for them. The one thing they have is cash. Just make the move already.

At this point, I hope Wong's been working hard in center field this winter.

Hopefully "Mr. Hesitant Mo" is in discussions with someone that will lead to positive results....and not a dumpster dive. Or, instead we could just sit on our cash and keep the same roster for the next 5-10 years....

To be fair, did you want him to dish out an offer better than Washington did for Adam Eaton? I'm sure the Rockies will now want a similar return for Blackmon.

Allegedly there is an offer out to Fowler. I think he has been the target all along.

Brew, we all know you have to give up someone of value to get what/whom you want. It normally must be a good deal for both sides and of course I would never want to over pay for anyone much less a player like Eaton. I'm sure that clubs know that the Cardinals have certain players that are not included in any discussion. Do you overpay a bit for a Blackmon? Probably not. For a Cain (if he was willing to re-negotiate his contract), or a McCutchen? Possibly so.... 8-)

I think Cain is a real possibility, I would have thought Eaton or Blackmon until I saw the price Washington paid. I never saw McCutchen coming. The price is more than I believe the Cards are willing to pay. While it's exciting to have something happen during the meetings, there is still plenty of off-season left.

The Cardinals aren't willing to part with prospects, OK. But they have plenty of money to spend. Easily another $50M per year when you look at how their payroll to revenue has dropped over the last 10 years.

Fowler wants $18 per, I say call him up and give it to him.

We're not going to be trading for anyone given the prices being asked for by trade and I think that's going to be the right call. But you have money. Let's use it. The longer Mo waits to push Fowler to sign, the more likely a team with a GM who is a better closer seals the deal.

Agree, but remember, Mo may also be going after an OF who is not a CF with initial plans of keeping Grichuk in CF.... 8-)

Frank Cusumano reporting that Dexter Fowler is headed to STL for a physical. No word on any deal yet.

Not official, but I can't imagine he's coming to St. Louis without the framework of a deal in place.

They probably overpaid a bit and honestly that's okay.
