The deal includes an invite to Major League camp, and it will pay Garcia a $2.5 million bonus, according to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez.

That is real money. This is a serious commitment.

Hard to believe we've burned thru so many OF'rs in 13 months that we only have 4 OFrs with any real MLB Service Time and only one with more than just a couple years. Crazy.

Hope he is the real deal. If so, puts pressure on Grichuk & Piscotty to produce & be consistent. At the least force his way into a rotation.... 8-)

Have heard he isn't ready for MLB from what little I've read. Seems like a wild card guy but I like the signing either way.

Hit .315/.395/.517, hit 14 home runs in a 90 game season, won MVP, won Cuban National Series championship. He's had a terrific year. Before that season he was #20 on Baseball America's Top-20 Cuban players.

Usually most Cuban guys who come over need about a year. Hopefully he can get the visa situation sorted out quickly so he can see some game time with the big league club. I'm excited about what it means for the club. Could create some interesting situations in the outfield down the road. Gives Bader someone to compete with too, rather than be mostly unchallenged as the only outfield prospect near ready in the system.

The Cards hope the work visa process is wrapped up by mid-March, timeline is unknown. They do not expect an Opening Day roster spot for him.

My Goodness .............. have y'all seen the face values on Opening Night tix from Cards' box office? $86 fpr SRO to $490 for Champions Club. Cheapest seat, upper deck, $170. Plus fees on all, those are face values.

Wow ...................

I know it's been 6 years, but those prices are more than the World Series tickets were in 2011.

Now they need to go after Luis Robert and make this one of the best years for adding amateur talent that I can remember. Had a great draft and great international signings to this point and Robert would be the icing on the cake.

The problem with Robert is that the Cards are under penalty. So to sign him they basically pay $1 penalty for every $1 they pay him, I believe. So for guy being touted as being better than Cespedes who got $36/4 five years ago, that would be a lot of money.

Cmart tabbed Opening Day starter vs the Cubs

This surprised me a little. Waino definitely hasn't been the Waino of old this spring. Looking forward to seeing CMart get this start.

Very surprising. But happy to see it.

Not that we'll ever know, but I would bet that Wainwright played a large role in steering Matheny to that decision.
