Carpenter was a late scratch from the lineup today. No explanation yet.

Am liking the DeJong kid. Could he be our future third baseman?

Maybe. He seems to be getting comfortable at shortstop too and that's probably where he'll play a lot this year.

It's a big year for him. If he plays well he positions himself for a big league spot next year at third. Maybe sharing time with Gyorko and backing up Diaz at short. His being in the system is also one of the reasons I think the organization made the decision to move Carpenter. Opens up a spot.

Other than there being an immediate need at Memphis, I don't understand why they shifted DeJong there. The organization is fairly loaded at SS. If Peralta and Gyrko play as poorly as I'm anticipating they will, we could see him on the big roster this year IMO.

Admittedly, he's also from my alma mater, so I'm a bit biased. :D

If he is the defender they talk about him being, versatility is good. Especially with Wong, Diaz, and Gyorko fairly well embedded on the big league roster going forward. Gives him an opportunity, if he can, to carve out more playing time than he would have gotten only as a third baseman. Or maybe he gives Diaz a run for his money at short next year if Diaz can't cure his defensive woes.

It's very much apparent to me that they're positioning him to be at least a utility infielder for the 2018 club.

IMO, every prospect should be learning at least two positions coming up through the minors. Gives them the most opportunity.

3 scoreless, in fact. 3 H, 0 BB, 2 K. Not a bad outing at all.

Flaherty 3 Ks in 2 innings of work.

Socolovich a 1-2-3 inning in the 9th without the ball leaving the infield.

Cardinals are 8-3-1 this spring which has had a very different feel than last year's.

Sokolovich is out of options. Needs to make the club or we will more than likely lose him. I think he's earned a spot in the pen. I believe I also heard that since 2012 the batting average against him has been .182. Not too shabby. If anyone is to not make the club out of the pen my vote would be to cut Broxton loose.
