Re: Yadi To Sign Extension! Mo Got 'Er Done!

Postby chevyman58 » Fri Mar 31, 2017 3:08 am

St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said he's "hopeful" to have a new contract for Yadier Molina before opening day but said a deal was "not done" as of Thursday night.

"We're optimistic. We're hopeful," Mozeliak said. "But it's not complete yet."

Molina has said he wants a contract finalized before the season opens Sunday night. He said "nothing's done" after the game but expressed optimism.

"It's my main goal to stay here," Molina said.

Last season, Molina's .365 batting average in the second half ranked second-best among all Major League players. He led the Cardinals with a .307 season average, 38 doubles and 46 multi-hit games.

Hopefully the deal will get done today. Don't want this hanging over everyone's heads during the season.... 8-)

I keep reading conflicting reports. First there was a deal close to done, then it was being worked on but not so close, and lastly finishing touches were being put on. Really wish these guys would get their stories straight or at least wait.

Like Tul, I'm hoping this gets done today or tomorrow morning, no need in having it be a story all season.

Presuming that sources are real and not figments of a writer's imagination, it could be hearing from people involved/hearing what's going on on each side, which would create potential conflicts in information if one side thought it was closer than the other.

Maybe they're just waiting to announce it during Opening Day festivities. That'd be fun. Molina rides in and goes, "Hey, I'm staying for three more years!"

Molina's previous deal called for a $14 million salary this year and a $15 million mutual option for 2018 with a $2 million buyout.

Under the new contract, the 34-year-old Molina will make $20 million in each of the following three seasons, the highest AAV by far of any MLB catcher.

Will cf4l chime-in & give DeWallet & his Puppet some props for droppin' some large on the Yadster?
