This is what I was thinking too, but from a quick glance at FanGraphs, his contact rates both inside and outside the strike zone are pretty similar in all 3 of his seasons.

He is taking a LOT more strikes now. I'm almost wondering if he is just overthinking at this point after being told he has to cut down on strikeouts.

He talked about that being the problem last year. I think the same too and wonder if just letting him run wild is the way to go.

One of two things are at play regarding Grichuk. Either the big league hitting instructors have no idea how to coach him, or he's a modern day, more athletic version of Mike Laga.

Either option is not good. It's very disappointing I was hoping he'd be able to turn things around. I don't know how MM can justify benching Pham at any time for Grichuk from this point forward.

“Our records make this a little more confusing than normal. We’re in it,” said John Mozeliak, who was promoted to president of baseball operations earlier this month. “The nuances of trying to determine how we think about improvement between now and July 31st still seems a bit unclear because of our inconsistencies. On any given night you could argue something and it would probably make perfect sense. In other words, let’s go out and add an eighth- or ninth-inning pitcher. Is that going to change our trajectory by the end of September? It could. But it could arguably not.

“The point is over the next (18) days we have to be open-minded and really be willing to explore anything that we can put on the table,” he added and leaned forward in his seat. “I wouldn’t want you leaving here thinking we’re not going to focus on this year.”

Grichuk on the 10 day DL retroactive to July 10. Jose Martinez recalled.

Carson Kelly is expected to get the call today. Corresponding move TBD.

Obviously Fryer makes the most sense, but I could see it be Voit since with Wong back his playing time has taken a hit.

This article pretty much sums it up. This team is a mess and has been an under achiever under Matheny.

Lots of changes coming today. Randal Grichuk and Zach Duke are both in Chicago too.

I'm to the point where I hope Sierra gets sent down to get back to having good coaches around him to help him develop...

Looks like it will be Sierra, Fryer, and Tuivailala out. Grichuk, Kelly, and Duke up.

Tui's been your third best reliever on the season. Allowed 6 base runners in his last 7 innings, which have been scoreless. Can't buy his way into games.

Edit: Now official.

Also LHP Marco Gonzales has been traded to the Seattle Mariners for OF Tyler O'Neill.

O'Neill is hitting .244/.328/.479 with 19 HR in AAA this season. Hit .293/.374/.508 with 24 HR in AA last year, .260/.316/.558 with 32 HR in high A the year before. He was the Mariners' #2 prospect according to MLB.com and a consensus top-100 prospect.

What in the he** is Grichuk doing in Chicago? Sierra's performance & skillset blows Grichuk's only attribute of an occasional HR away.

I would much rather see Sierra on the field than Grichuk. Sheesh ...................

Doesn't make sense to send Sierra down when he can wreak havoc on the base paths & get into the Cubs' heads. What was Sierra's BA....around .360?

So we have the hope of a Grichuk singleton HR? Ok.
