The Cardinals' "Players Weekend" jerseys were unveiled today.

Jersey closeup
Nickname preview

The team was kind of unimaginative on nicknames.

Matt Carpenter - CARP
Adam Wainwright - WAINO
Tommy Pham - T. PHAM
Dexter Fowler - DEX
Carlos Martinez - TSUNAMI
Kolten Wong - WONGER
Seung-hwan Oh - his name in Korean
Randal Grichuk - GRICH
Michael Wacha - WACH
Yadier Molina - YADI
Alex Reyes - A. REY
Jose Martinez - CAFE
Stephen Piscotty - MOMO
Trevor Rosenthal - BIG T
Mike Leake - SPARKY

Paul DeJong tried to be "Paulie D" but apparently there is a DJ that has the name trademarked so he couldn't.

Piscotty's, though he probably won't be wearing it, I've heard is a tribute to his Mom.

Really disappointed that Wacha did not go with FOZZIE.

My favorite has to be Kyle Seager in Seattle, who will have "Corey's brother" on his jersey.

My apologies .............. but I was offended when I read several articles about this earlier today. This has to be the dumbest 'promotion' ever.

I guess if you do something in the name of charity you can get away with just about anything. Turning MLB into a circus. Ridiculous.

Definitely not a fan of this either. This particular money grab won't be working on me.

Rosenthal placed on the 10-day disabled list with right posterior elbow irritation, Luke Weaver recalled.

Permitted to add a 26th man to the roster for Sunday's Little League Classic because of the unique mid-series travel involved, the Cardinals summoned outfielder Stephen Piscotty back from Triple-A Memphis.

But Piscotty's callup won't be a one-day stay. The Cards kept the 26-year-old on the roster, and in a corresponding move, they optioned first baseman Luke Voit to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

RHP Josh Lucas optioned to Memphis, LHP Ryan Sherriff purchased, and RHP Trevor Rosenthal to the 60 day DL.

Girsch has confirmed that Rosenthal will have Tommy John. So odds are good that Rosenthal's time in Cardinal red is over because I don't see him agreeing to or the Cardinals being willing to give him a $5 million deal to rehab next year.

There's nothing set in stone that Rosenthal won't be back, or won't be re-signed.

From the PD:

"Rosenthal's contract expires at the end of this season, though the Cardinals do maintain one more year of control over the righthander. He will be eligible for arbitration this winter, meaning that process will influence his salary as much as the injury."

Not set in stone, but players don't get pay cuts through arbitration unless they are unbelievably bad. He hasn't been. Nothing guaranteed, but I'm putting the odds at him being non tendered at about 95%.
