Probably better that he pulls a Rajai Davis than a Carlos Martinez.

Cardinals trading Piscotty to the A's is edging closer, according to reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle. A name reported as being mentioned is utilityman Yairo Munoz.

Munoz hit .300/.330/.464 with 13 HR between AA and AAA last season while splitting time at SS, 3B, and CF. Rated their #13 prospect by MLB Pipeline.

Some speculation that the reason nobody's got the final exchange on Ozuna is because the Cards front office still working on dealing Piscotty and acquiring Colome. And perhaps a little opacity here might help them protect a player or two.

Take it for a grain of salt because it is a Twitter user not a media member (as far as we know), but he's had accurate scoops before. But Piscotty to A's for 2-3 prospects. Reviewing medicals now.

Sounds like there might be some play as a three-team trade between MIA-STL-OAK, Ozuna to STL, Piscotty to OAK, with prospects being shipped around. Which would explain why the prospects MIA is getting is still being determined.

The #STLCards have been pursuing #Bluejays 3B Josh Donaldson much stronger than #Orioles Manny Machado, perhaps in part because they'd have a much better chance to lock up Donaldson to long-term extension.

Things in general have gotten pretty quiet since the meetings ended.

If I had to guess, the Cardinals still think they can pry Donaldson away from the Blue Jays and that's holding up a potential deal with the Rays because they need to figure that out first so they can figure out whether they need to get Longoria too.

I'm kind of split on Donaldson v. Machado. I'd rather Donaldson if we're talking one year, I'd rather Machado if we're signing to another deal. And I don't think Machado signs in St. Louis next winter unless he plays a year here and decides he likes it. But really either addition puts the Cards into a win now mode.

Yep, agree with this.

Definitely prefer Donaldson for just 1 year. If contracts were equal, I would rather have Machado long term. However, I'm not so sure I'd rather have Machado on a 12/400-450 extension or Donaldson on a 5/125-150 extension. I think I would lean Donaldson if those are the options. Plus there is still the question of Machado's home/road splits and whether he will be as good of a hitter outside of Baltimore. Donaldson doesn't have those issues.

If I am the Cards, I am pushing Toronto to make a deal of something like Donaldson for Gyorko, Grichuk, and a pitching prospect, maybe Fernandez. You can argue that it will keep them competitive both this year and actually better in 2019-2020. They need a 3B until Vlad Jr is ready (he was at A+ ball in 2017). And with Gyorko's flexibility, he can also play 2B for them. Plus his bat will play great in the launching pad in Toronto. Grichuk fits for a similar reason. They need a RF right now and for the next few years. And then I just assume they would want a pitching prospect, but I'm honestly not sure what the 3rd piece would be. If they want an MLB piece, maybe include Wacha but take back J.A. Happ. Would save them money and give an extra year of control for a slightly lesser player. Also could be someone like Bader instead of Grichuk if that is who they preferred. But I would think that Grichuk's HR ability would be a good fit for them in Toronto. And I think the 3rd piece should be less if it is Bader instead of Grichuk.

In their current situation, they are 3rd place at best in 2018 with Donaldson, lose him to FA next year and are in an even worse spot going to 2019. Or if they do sign him long term, they block their best prospect. With this trade, they are probably still 3rd place at best but can "stay competitive" in 2018 while filling some other holes, not blocking their best prospect, have plenty of flexibility, and will be much better off in 2019 and after.

Get it done Mo!

The Cardinals "remain involved in pursuit" of free-agent first baseman Eric Hosmer, a source told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi.

According to Morosi, St. Louis is also interested in other lineup upgrade options, including pursuing Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson in a trade. Morosi added while speaking on MLB Network on Tuesday that the Padres are "still very much involved" in the sweepstakes for Hosmer and that a return to Kansas City is also a possibility.

Would love to have Hosmer. Doesn't look like, at least in the media, that the Blue Jays are interested in trading Donaldson. Still not hot on this deal unless he would extend the contract.

Trading Carpenter for Colome would not hurt my feelings.

Hosmer is pretty meh to me. It's the definition of letting good get in the way of great IMO because how much are we paying for him to not be a big step up over what we already have.

Don't want any part of the contract that Hosmer is going to get. He isn't an upgrade Unless Carpenter or Gyorko is already part of another trade to actually upgrade the team.
