Right, if the Cards sent Carpenter to Toronto in a deal for Donaldson, sure, bring on Hosmer. Until then, he's not a 6 year, $132 million (MLBTR's projected contract) upgrade over the combo of Carpenter, Martinez, and Voit. And reports are that San Diego has a seven year deal on the table already.

I'm not a person who is exceptionally down on Carpenter as a defender, but the club has stated it wants to be good on defense but would move Carpenter from his best defensive position and intentionally make him less valuable. Common sense would seem to suggest that you should play a player at the position he is most valuable. For Carpenter, that's first base.

USAToday reporting that the Royals have offered Hosmer a 7 year, $147 million deal ($21M AAV). No way I want any part of that really.

Agree on a pass if these are the terms we are dealing with. Royals and Padres competing both with 7 year $140 million plus offers. The amount of $$ that is thrown around for these players makes me dizzy.

Next.... 8-)

Nightengale says that the Royals offer is for $1 million more per year than the Padres offer, which Nightengale now says is worth $140 million.

So, if it's about the money, his net would be much higher in KC considering the high taxes & cost of living in La-La Land.

And frankly KC has been as, or more than, competitively successful as LAA in recent history.

Aside from being a LH bat is Moustakas really a better option than Gyorko or even Carpenter for that matter? Not sure they'd pull the trigger on this one. Also read we are talking to Arrieta's reps. Seems Cardinals are being mentioned all over the place.

Would surely like another bat, but I'm sure we all want to see the closer situation addressed.

Agree. Moustakas isn't an upgrade just like Hosmer isn't. Hosmer is better than Moose. Arrieta at least would make a little sense.

The Rays are engaged in “consistent” trade talks over Chris Archer, MLB.com’s Jon Morosi reported Friday, citing Major League Baseball sources. The Minnesota Twins and the St. Louis Cardinals reportedly are viewed as potential suitors for Archer, who has proven himself as a reliable starter over five-plus seasons in Tampa Bay.

This would make the off-season. C'mon Mo make it happen. Not banking on it but man it would be great and make the off-season make a lot more sense.
