If the team is underperforming, fans have the right to criticize.

His statements harken back to his early days as the manager. News flash Mike. This isn't little leagues. Wins matter! We aren't handing out participation trophies or handing out orange slices and juice boxes.

And what you & others don't understand is none of this is MM's fault. None of it, which is why I get so defensive when folks attack him so viciously (generally speaking, not this thread today specifically). Folks need to de-personalize the hate & place blame where it belongs.

MM was a bad hire, a really bad hire. Mo & Ownership were beat-up & battered by enduring years & years of an Iconic HOF Manager over which they had extremely liittle control. They made a strategic decision to hire a guy they could keep under their thumb & justify by his organizational history & his playing position & player reputation. Period. That's the deal. He was broke, downtrodden and his only experience was coaching his kids' youth league team. They got a guy for nickles & dimes they could contol his every move. Seriously, what the heck MLB Manager expectations should we have or have had? The guy's got less years in coaching than I have, by God, was everybody expecting Connie Mack in this guy???

As R27 has correctly become outspoken about it's time for the DeWitts to demonstrate that they're legitimately In It To Win It every year or just to contend & line their pockets to maximum balance. That's 100% on them, and 0% on Matheny.

You just ignore this analysis without comment & go right back to analytical criticism of MM like it's news ????

Matheny is in over his head. He's been in over his head since day one. Ownership and Mo are part of the problem. But Matheny signed his name on the dotted line to do the job and he's no better today than he was when he started the job.

So just because he's ill-equipped for the job, I'm not going to stop criticizing him. The guy stands up there like he's holier than thou and says idiotic things non-stop.

Add in his lack of game management and his refusal to hold a veteran accountable, you get what we have today.

A team that lacks intensity, leadership and discipline. They are like a rudderless ship, just spinning in circles.

The guy on the field is a mess and the guys that have him the stupid contract are a mess.

I would argue that he is much better than he was in season one, but hasn't developed where we'd like him to. But on top of that, he has yet to figure out how to manage when things go sideways. Or even admit that things are sideways. That's the main problem I have.

And Mo's excuse as always, there were no value fits. As there will never be because DeWitt is a prospect nerd and won't let Mo trade any.

Therein lies the issue with today's Cardinals. (Actually this post is a candidate for "Post Of The Year.")

As far as MM goes, didn't DeWitt bail him out from a failed investment situation? For all we know he is still working off his debt.

It's never good when the face of the franchise and fan favorite is sending subliminal messages to ownership about the manager.

Yeah the comments in even the most benign article or post can be disturbing. People have issues. Folks hide behind their device and believe they can type anything without consequence.

So I found this Ken Rosenthal piece. Looks like the Cards tried a push for Sonny Gray. Offering Piscotty and either Weaver or Flaherty.

So they put the ceremonious offer out for a SP when they have a good one in their rotation they could simply re-sign. Makes perfect sense.

Yeah that doesn't make much sense to me either. Gray is basically Wacha (look at their careers, it's kind of amazing how close they are, not a bad thing either BTW). Who are you replacing? Waino I guess? Or maybe if that works out they would have traded Lynn? Strange if true.

Gosh, Rosenthal needs to discover how to write a Facebook note instead of a status update.

It at least provides the hint that the Cardinals feel the same way I do about the rotation next season. But that doesn't always translate into actually filling that need.

 I saw something on Twitter about how this is just a temporary home until his website is up, or something like that. But yeah it is hard to read in that format.

MT, you're a Prophet. You have no idea how spot-on & to-the-moment those words are. Bravo, absolute insightful genius.
