CMart Sued For Assault

Postby chevyman58 » Sat Feb 03, 2018 7:57 am

Cardinals starting pitcher Carlos Martinez was allegedly part of a group that jumped a man outside an East St. Louis strip club in 2014. According to a lawsuit a group of men that included Martinez and since-deceased Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras. They allegedly took him to the ground and beat him. On Martinez specifically, he's alleged to have punched the plaintiff in the face and head. The plaintiff, per the lawsuit, suffered a broken back and almost $100,000 in medical bills to date, with more surgical procedures on tap.

It appears statute of limitations in Missouri is 2 years. Surprising they'd wait 'til expired. Assault, Battery - R.S.Mo. 516.140 - 2 years

It's baffling that it's civil action now and no criminal action if it happened as described. It's two different standards of evidence, but you'd have to think if they had anything meaningful we'd have heard about it three and a half years ago, not just now.
