Official 2015/16 Offseason Trades & Free Agent Signings Thread

For the first time in history a guy took the QA - Colby Rasmus. Two more quickly followed.

Matt Wieters on Friday accepted the Baltimore Orioles' $15.8 million qualifying offer. He joined Houston outfielder Colby Rasmus and Dodgers pitcher Brett Anderson as the first players in the four-year history of the compensation system to accept a qualifying offer over remaining a free agent.

Atlanta traded away SS Andrelton Simmonsto the Angels for veteran shortstop Erick Aybar and the Angels’ top two pitching prospects.
Simmons is the best defensive shortstop in baseball and, at 26, is under contract through 2020 for another $53 million. Aybar, has $8.5 million remaining on his contract.

The real gain for the Braves is in the pitchers. Sean Newcomb, 22, is a 6-foot-5 left-hander who many believed was the Angels’ ace of the future. The other is Chris Ellis, a 23-year-old, 6-foot-4 right-hander.

The Angels sent the Braves $2.5 million to cover roughly the difference between the salaries of Simmons and Aybar in 2016. The Angels also received minor-league catcher Jose Briceno in the trade.

Boston acquired four-time All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel from the Padres for four prospects. The Red Sox assumed $25 million remaining on Kimbrel's contract but have him under control for up to three more seasons. He saved 39 games for the Padres last year.

The Padres receive outfielder Manuel Margot, infielders Javier Guerra and Carlos Asuaje, and left-hander Logan Allen. Only Asuaje and Margot made it as high as Double-A last season.

Free agent right-hander Marco Estrada agreed Friday to a $26 million, two-year contract to remain with the Toronto Blue Jays.

This is only thing I could find on this trade but I believe it's official. My main man Brad Miller got traded to Tampa Bay. Not sure where he's going to play there though since TB is set at second and short unless they use Miller as a super utility guy.

They got Nick Franklin too. Just collecting all your middle infielders

But they have an opening at short. Cabrera is a free agent. Beckham still has a giant question mark. Franklin hasn't done anything. May just be buying some insurance on Beckham though. They have familiarity with how to use a super utility guy.

I'm not sure what happened to Nick Franklin. At one time he looked like he was going to be pretty decent player but he just can't seem to put things together. Thanks for the info on Cabrera, I didn't know he was a free agent. Miller will be a nice fill in IMO.

They've got plenty of depth at shortstop between Beckham, Franklin, Lee and now Miller. Odds are one will be good enough.

Franklin hit well in AAA. Just hasn't been able to make the jump and hit in the bigs. Lee may be the best defensively of the four, but he hasn't hit worth a lick in Triple-A (he is near and dear to my heart as the guy who hit the first foul ball I caught a couple years ago).

Don't expect any more blockbusters from the Red Sox this offseason Dombrowski said after announcing a deal with outfielder Chris Young on Wednesday. The $13 million two-year contract to make Young a fourth outfielder comes a day after they agreed to give David Price the biggest deal ever for a pitcher:

Yikes .............. Dodgers get The Best Closer In Baseball!

A dynamic closer and the thrower of the fastest pitch in the history of baseball, Aroldis Chapman's dynamic tenure with the Reds appears to be over. The Reds and Dodgers reached an agreement Monday to deal Chapman for two prospects, according to a report from Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

That's a lethal 8-9 for the Dodgers now. I bet Mattingly's wondering why they waited so long.

Doubt that's a setup that will last longer than a season though. Two elite closers don't like being on the same team, especially when they haven't banked a huge contract for their efforts yet.

Also saw that people who know Kenley Jansen said that he would not be happy at all if he were to lose his closer job. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Exactly. Just ask the Nationals how that worked out for them last year after trading for Paplebon.
