Again - nobody's challenging anything talent-wise or production.

He's a head-case. CCH Puig Thread & this one filled with factual examples. In-game stuff, battles with Mgrs & teammates, benchings, demotions, etc.. Quotes from Dodgers staff why he was demoted was attitude & behavior - not performance. Same with articles from LA reporters embedded with the team for years.

So again ........ What makes you think a likelihood that coming into the Cardinals' organization would fix behavior, attitude & decision-making trends so ingrained that years in the Dodgers organization with mentors like AGone couldn't fix ??? To the degree they gave up ???

Again, $15M is chump change to MLB teams. This kind of talent is never this cheap. If I'm GM I'm going after him unless it is a physical issue. Absolute worst you are out the money. And the upside is absolutely massive in a position that will be needed next season most likely. We agree to disagree.

What are we disagreeing on ?? I haven't taken a position, at all. I'm trying to gain insight so I have perspective to form opinion.

I don't know why you keep asking this. I don't know and honestly don't care about that. It is part of the risk.

You asked if I'd take him and his salary for nothing. The answer is yes. And I've given my reasons.

That's why if I were to take him on, I'd start him in Memphis, let him prove there he could get his act together. If he can't do it there, I don't see how he'll do it in the pros. Obviously, the behavior being a problem wouldn't be a good things regardless of where it is but I'd rather it be Memphis than St. Louis. It's just part of the risk though.

If I got him this year I agree. Start in Memphis and see what happens. If during the offseason then it depends. Would give him a shot at spring training to be with STL right away.

I actually think he will see upcoming free agency and a bunch of dollar signs and be motivated to get his stuff together or he is throwing potentially a ton of money away. Why it hasn't happened this year yet, I don't know though.

I keep asking because it's the reason he's a problem, it's the reason he's not in MLB, it's the reason he's available, it's the entirety of his availability. Not by my opinion, but by that of every LA sportswriter & by LAD team spokesmen themselves. The guy's the biggest head-case in MLB, a well-documented fact. Bigger than Papelbon, makes Gomez look like Mother Theresa.

And you "don't care about that"? You don't know why I keep asking about the issue?

It's the core decision-making issue on this guy. If you wanna ignore it I guess that's fine but then hard to take your evaluation seriously.

No, it isn't the biggest decision making issue on the guy IMO. The contract and talent outweigh it. The media might make it out to be that, but I don't agree with that. I'm also not ignoring it. I said it is part of the risk. This is why I said we might as well agree to disagree.

OK.

My opinion is that if a guy is inarguably a huge MLB-skilled talent and he's been banished to AAA by his long-term team - a team in postseason contention - because he's a head-case than that issue is the biggest decision-making one. But even if it's not, it's still one of them. Therefore I don't know how that component of evaluation isn't worthy of investigation, analysis & discussion.

I don't touch the guy with a 10-foot pole until that issue is vetted. His own team, with the greatest vetting insight, determined it's a deal-breaker. So far, 28 other teams haven't bitten the apple. I'm not biting without addressing the well-documented head-case issue.
