Team president Andrew Friedman said the team was “disappointed” with the recently-demoted outfielder after Puig posted a series of videos showing him partying with his Triple-A teammates on Snapchat. They show Puig with teammates in the clubhouse, and then out for a night on the town in a party bus.

I think it's safe to say this kid just doesn't get it. I don't have a problem with him having fun with teammates, under normal circumstances, but his circumstances are anything but normal. I mean he was hitting over .300 after coming back from the DL, that tells you his demotion wasn't due to production.

Maybe by partying with them he's trying to show he can be a good teammate and have a good time with other players? Not sure what his line of thinking is, or if there is a line of thinking at all.

I don't think it's as much about the partying. I think it's the In-Your-Face act of filming it & posting it for the entire universe to see that even further demonstrates the self-absorption & look-at-me problem - the very problem he was demoted for. Add the perceived negative influence on his young teammates, particularly after a loss, and it's extremely inappropriate for a 'Professional'. They send ya down to give you an opportunity to grow up, prove your commitment, learn to be more professional and this is the very first choice you make. Wow.

They musta skipped the H's in his English class, complete missed 'humble' and 'humility'.

From Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe:

“The Dodgers are trying to give away Puig, but no luck. Puig, with Triple-A Oklahoma City, is considered toxic at the moment, but it takes only one team to want him,” Cafardo said.

“He doesn’t have too many allies in the Dodgers organization, but as one team official said recently, ‘At some point, the talent, the maturity is going to take hold. Someone will benefit from it. We hope it’s us, but it’s hard to envision it right now.'”

Puig is raking at Triple-A - .419/.479/.721 3 HR, 2 2B, 1 3B 11 RBI - but apparently the Dodgers want him nowhere near L.A..

Just unbelievable to be honest. That talent doesn't lie though. If he could get someone to just keep his head in the right place, would be right back to where he was I'm sure.

This team could easily have an opening in LF next year, just saying....................

I've never really been a Puig fan but he's tearing it up in AAA for sure. If they're giving him away, see what it'd take and let him finish the year in Memphis. If someone there is able to get through and get his head on his shoulders, it may not hurt.

I just don't know that he won't always be a basket case. I guess no one does though.

Exactly. I mean, if you get him for some low level prospects, even if they have decent potential, and he completely busts, you are out a couple lottery tickets and a relatively small amount of money. Or you try to ship him off to another team for something similar. And that is worst case.

Best case, he comes over and just plays ball, hits to .800-.900 OPS as an excellent defender and fills a huge hole both in the field and in the lineup as a middle of the order hitter for 2-3 years for relatively cheap. Obviously is best case.

And even somewhere in the middle is a very good move.

It's too bad it'll never happen. If you're getting him cheap, I'd go for it. You don't know when or if Holliday and Diaz are coming back. So I think you fill the hole you have if you can do it cheaply and see what happens.

What is "cheap"?

If you gave LAD two cases of still-trying-to-get-rid-of Freese t-shirts and a dozen hotdogs he still costs you $15.324M today thru '18.

Is that cheap or are you also looking for cash from LAD?

Yes his contract is cheap relative to his potential impact. Only 2 years and less than 8M per year. That's chump change in MLB at this point for a guy who has team changing potential and has shown it in the recent past.

It's only cheap if that potential yields some percentage of positive performance results, right? Isn't that the bet?

So you would take him today for the $15M remaining?

100% yes.

And if you want to get more analytical into it, he doesn't have to get back to his rookie year numbers to be well worth that. In his best 2 seasons he was worth 4 and 5 WAR respectively. If he is just as good as he was last season (2015) he will easily be worth the contract. Last season he had a 1.1 bWAR or 1.5 fWAR in a half a season of playing time. To be worth his contract, he only needs to provide 2-3 WAR over the 2 seasons. Using his worst season before this year, he projects to be worth between 2 and 3 WAR per season if he plays full time both seasons. Or even if he does that for just 1 season and is either injured or in the minors or released the other season, he is worth the money. $15M really is chump change in MLB now.

Nobody's challenging his physical talent.

The question is his mental talent.

What makes you think a likelihood that coming into the Cardinals' organization would fix behavior, attitude & decision-making trends so ingrained that years in the Dodgers organization with mentors like AGone couldn't fix ??? To the degree they gave up ???

Who is saying those are actually the reasons his production dropped and not the hamstring injuries he has had the past 2 seasons?

I'd be way way more concerned about that than anything.

And even if it is mental stuff, it's buy low with massive upside. At worst he is a league average hitter with an attitude. At best he is a middle of the order hitter that fills a huge hole both in the field and in the lineup. Anything in between and he is well worth it.

I don't think the Dodgers are going to give him away though.
