This is when guaranteed contracts bug me. Your job is literally to be in at least decent shape. On top of being paid millions of dollars, you have access to world class fitness and diet professionals and technology. Most of that is even paid for by the team. Ugh.

Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was placed on paid leave Tuesday under Major League Baseball's new domestic violence policy pending completion of criminal proceedings. He will not report to spring training.

The 32-year-old Reyes, a four-time All-Star, was arrested in Hawaii at a Maui resort on Oct. 31 following an argument with his wife and pleaded not guilty to a charge of abuse of a family or household member. He was released after posting $1,000 bail and is scheduled for a trial starting April 4, the day the Rockies open the season at Arizona.

Reyes became the first player impacted by the policy, agreed to in August by MLB and the players' association

Considering how much MLB takes in, the players still aren't earning enough in my opinion.

The Rangers have optioned Jurickson Profar to the minors. He hasn't played in the Majors since 2013 and has been dealing with rotator cuff injuries since. I was just thinking back to when the hot hypothetical GM discussion was whether you'd trade Oscar Taveras for Jurickson Profar. :(

I thought I read he did pretty well in the Fall league last year. Shame injuries are taking a toll on him. When Peralta went down, I was actually thinking about him as an option, but hadn't heard anything about him till now. Hopefully he can make it back soon.

The Atlanta Braves came into spring training knowing they'd have to make some difficult roster decisions. They probably didn't anticipate parting with their two most expensive players.

On Thursday, the team released veteran outfielder Nick Swisher and his $15 million salary, making him a free agent. On Saturday, the $14 million salary of Michael Bourn was ticketed to follow him after he was no longer a fit for their roster. Bourn was officially designated for assignment.

That's $29 million worth of cuts in less than 48 hours, or roughly 36 percent of their $81.2 million payroll. The number actually tops $30 million when you include Emilio Bonifacio. The veteran infielder was also dfa'd on Saturday. He's due $1.25 million this season.

Pablo Sandoval has become a $95 million bench player.

The Boston Red Sox announced before their final spring training game Thursday that Travis Shaw, a 25-year-old who made his big league debut last May, will be their starting third baseman. He is owed $17 million this year in the second season of a $95 million, five-year contract.

Babe Ruth. Yogi Berra. Tino Martinez. Starlin Castro.

Castro has driven in seven runs in his first two games as a Yankee. No one, not even Ruth, Berra or Martinez, who each drove in seven in the first two games of a Yankees season, can make that same claim since RBIs became an official stat in 1920. Now Starlin’s seven RBI — including five Wednesday during a four-hit masterpiece in the Yankees’ 16-6 rout of the Astros at the Stadium — equals the number of runs knocked in by Ruth in 1932, by Berra in 1956 and by Martinez in 1997.

“Starlin Castro is playing tee-ball right now,” raved teammate Carlos Beltran.
“I feel pretty good at the plate and on defense, too,” Castro said.

Castro is on pace for 567 RBIs this season.

Pretty impressive, but I don't see him keeping up that pace. :)

Tulo Who ?? Jose Reyes Who ??

Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story became the fifth player in Major League history to homer in four straight games to start a season, and the first to begin a season with six in four games when he went deep twice on Friday at Coors Field.
