2016 MLB All Star Game

Postby Topps » Tue Jul 05, 2016 8:21 pm

2016 All Star Game rosters

Ends up being an all Cubs infield. I don't care what team it is, this is ridiculous to me. If I wanted to see an all Cubs infield I'd watch one of their games. To me, something has to change with voting for the ASG after this. I don't even care if fans don't get to vote anymore.

The ASG has always been fun to watch b/c you get to see a variety of the games best from all different teams coming together on one team. This year, we get to watch 5 of the starting 9 as Cubs. Ridiculous to say the least.

43-year-old Mets right-hander Bartolo Colon was added to the National League roster on Friday. It will be his fourth All-Star Game. He made his first appearance nearly two decades ago as an Indian, in 1998, when he was 25 years old. Colon also made the All-Star Game in 2005, the year he won the American League Cy Young with the Angels, and in 2013 as a 40-year-old with the A's.

It would be interesting to see how many players have ever been an All Star in three different decades.

Pettite did it. A-Rod did it. Jeter did it. Chipper Jones did it. Maybe it's not as rare as one would think.

It was 2007. Cardinals' All Star Starters for the last 20 seasons.

2016: -
2015: SS Peralta
2014: P Wainwright
2013: C Molina
2012: RF Beltran
2011: LF Holliday, RF Berkman
2010: C Molina, 1B Pujols
2009: C Molina, 1B Pujols
2008: RF Holliday, DH Pujols
2007: -
2006: 1B Pujols
2005: CF Edmonds, DH Pujols, P Carpenter
2004: 1B Pujols, SS Renteria, 3B Rolen,
2003: SS Renteria, 3B Rolen, LF Pujols, CF Edmonds
2002: -
2001: -
2000: CF Edmonds
1999: 1B McGwire
1998: 1B McGwire
1997: -

2nd base is also the only position that the Cardinals haven't had an All Star starter at over the past 20 years (last one was Tommy Herr in 1985, actually). Though you could have made an argument that Wong was deserving last year. LeMahieu, who started, was hitting .311/.365/.397 with 4 HR at the break last year while Wong was hitting .280/.343/.434 with 9 HR.

Stanton beats out defending home run derby champ Todd Fraser in the finals to win the derby. Stanton hit several that were longer than 480 ft.

Total distance for Stanton's HRs combined was 5.4 miles. That's crazy.

Stanton was a man among boys. Although tiring he continued to crush the ball. Guy is heating up for the second half. We get to see him up close beginning Friday night.... 8-)

I think I read that Stanton hit the 10 longest home runs last night and 18 of the longest 19.

Crazy to think that he did this in Petco Park too.

The American League won the game on the bats of Royals, riding home runs from Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez to a 4-2 victory over the NL and home-field advantage in the World Series for the AL champion. It marked the AL’s fourth straight All-Star Game win and 16th in the last 20.

Aledmys Diaz pinch-hit in the 8th with bases loaded, 2 outs & took a called 3rd strike on a 3-2 count.

Definitely not much to get excited about from the NL standpoint. Same old story.

Really hoped Diaz would have a heck of a moment there, would have been incredible to watch.
