It Appears Prince Fielder's Career Is Over !!

Postby chevyman58 » Tue Aug 09, 2016 7:10 pm

The Rangers have announced a press conference Wednesday where Fielder is expected to announce that his career is over, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. That report has been confirmed by Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

Fielder underwent his second neck surgery in three years July 29, and that appears to be the reason for his abrupt announcement. If the reports are true, he would walk away from the game at just 32 years old. Fielder is not technically retiring, but his doctors will not clear him to play baseball.

So the mega-contracts to ARod, Hamilton & Fielder have all ended poorly & expensively. 5 years left on Albert's.

Hate to see guys forced out because of injury. He was one of the most dependable guys on the field for the last several years.

Most dependable guy in MLB - UNTIL the last several years actually. Averaged an unbelievable 160 games except in '14 & this season - missed 3/4 of '14 & 1/2 of this year.

I think he played 159 games in 2015. I won't knock a guy for one injured year over a 6 or 7 year span, especially when he came right back and was dependable. And this injury is the one that did him in for good, so I don't count it.

I'm agreeing with you - to the point of offering that you understated his Iron Man prowess. Dude was the most dependable player in MLB over his entire career, including last year, but for this neck injury that sidelined him in '14 & now has apparently ended his career this season.
