Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported today that Miami acquaintances of JD Martinez say he is willing to "hold out," certainly into spring training, for what he believes should be his market value.
Heyman added that Martinez, who has reportedly received a five-year offer from the Boston Red Sox and, sources suggest, at least one other offer, was thought at the outset of the offseason to be seeking a contract in the $200-million range. Two months later, with spring training rapidly approaching, Martinez's asking price hasn't dipped much, as the one-time All-Star is reportedly still seeking a six-year deal worth at least $180 million.

Cole has been barely above average the past two seasons and outside of one season (2015) has pretty much been an average pitcher.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice pickup by Houston, but I think Cole's creds as an ace are highly overrated.

It's just to slag our own staff. Over the years cf4l's definition criteria for others' 'Ace' status dramatically lower than for us. Our last one was Gibby.

Right. I'm sure to him Cole is an ace, but Martinez (who has been significantly better than Cole each of the past 2 years) isn't.

Sounds like Giants have acquired McCutcheon. Gonna be weird to see him in anything other than a Pirates jersey.
