The Cubs are 5 games ahead of the entire league right now.

The Cards are currently 2 games back of both wild cards with only 1 other team ahead of them (Miami).

Cubs are ridiculous. Cards are far from out of anything.

Dbacks beat the Cubs 3-2, handing Jake Arrieta his first loss since July 25.

During that period, over 24 starts, Arrieta was 20-0, with a 1.01 ERA over 169 1/3 innings.

With the Cubs' win against the Phillies on Monday they became the fastest team to 40 wins since the 2001 Mariners. Those Mariners tied the major-league record, winning 116 regular season games.

In Kris Bryant's first career five-hit game, and his first three-homer game, he became the first player in modern Major League history, dating back to 1913, to hit three homers and two doubles in one game last night. Bryant also set a Cubs franchise record with 16 total bases, making him the 19th player since 1913 with 16 or more total bases in a game. He also became the second player in Cubs franchise history with five extra-base hits in a game, the only other one being George Gore on July 9, 1885 (three doubles, two triples).

The "first" mainly because opposing teams used to have the sense to stop pitching to guys after their second home run of a game.
