Re: 2016 Chicago Cubs - The Most Dangerous Team In Baseball!

Postby cardinalfan4life » Sun Oct 30, 2016 3:20 am

my main question is this: How will the above Heyward Contract, effect this team when t comes time to pay the kids that ACTUALLY deserve the $200 million ten year deal, Guys like Bryant, Schwarber, Baez, Russal etc. This is of course, if the kids keep it up.

I now live in a world where the Chicago Cubs have won a World Series... and could go visit Donald Trump in the White House. What a world.

As I texted to a diehard Cubs fan friend of mine this morning, "Enjoy it, but lets not make a habit out of this. They should probably wait another 108 years, at least, to win another. Just to be safe."

I was thinking that I was thankful they got it out of the way so we don't have to worry about them winning another one until 2124.

Although they did win back to back in 1907-08, so maybe they will also win next year and then start the new drought.

Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow offered his thoughts on Thursday morning.

"The Cubs won this thing despite over-managing from Joe Maddon. It was awful. It was awful," Krukow said on KNBR 680. "It was the arrogance that he was trying to put his signature on what was gonna happen. And it happened despite taking out Hendricks early, taking out Lester early, putting in Chapman when he was tired.

"And the bunt with 3-2? You're gonna be smarter than the game? I was so outraged at what I was watching ...

Good for Krukow. It was just their year. We'd better make some changes both defensively and in the bullpen or we'll be looking up at them again in 2017.... 8-)

Approximately 10 million people live in the Chicago metropolitan area.

FIVE MILLION people showed up yesterday for the Victory Parade & Celebration.

WOW ................... that's 46,296 people for every year in-wait.

The Cubs have selected RHP Jose Rosario from Triple-A Iowa, and claimed RHP Conor Mullee off waivers from the Yankees and activated him from the 60-day disabled list.

They also activated RHP Dallas Beeler, RHP Aaron Brooks, LHP Zac Rosscup and infielder Christian Villanueva, all of whom were on the 60-day DL. Beeler was outrighted to Iowa, along with RHP Andury Acevedo and catcher Tim Federowicz.

The Cubs' 40-man roster now stands at 34 players.

Maddon's talking about hitting Schwarber leadoff.

Schwarber
Bryant
Rizzo

Based on last year's stats for everyone else, assuming Contreras, at catcher and 2015 numbers for Schwarber, this is the Cubs' mathematically optimized lineup:

Zobrist
Bryant
Jay
Schwarber
Rizzo
Russell
Contreras
Pitcher
Heyward

A lineup with Schwarber-Bryant-Rizzo as the front 3 would score approximately 5% fewer runs.

And then where does Zobrist play?

Baez is their Gyorko. Except actually worth playing defensively at the positions he plays. He'll probably start 30 games at each of 2B, SS, and 3B easily. And anything else will depend on how the season plays out.
