Guess you do have a point with Schwarber back. Kid is too good to be on the bench though.... 8-)

I think Jay will have a season on par with what Fowler put up last season, honestly. I have high expectations for him, even though I'd like to be very, very wrong. Sorry, Jon.

When I read how outspokenly critical Montero was of Arrieta last night I figured there'd be consequence. I didn't expect em to immediately cut him today.

The Cubs cut Miguel Montero after he opened his mouth, a cardinal sin for backup catchers

He complained about his playing time in the playoffs last year on the same day as their World Series parade too. I think there was a little calculation here and he wanted out. Going 0-for-7 in the stolen base prevention department was just the opportunity he needed.

But since leading the league in CS% in 2011, it has fallen every year since. 42% in 2012 to 33% to 29% to 11% to 3% this year. And even the one he has this year was a pickoff that he gets credit for.

The Cubs dealt veteran catcher Miguel Montero to the Blue Jays on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Montero, who was designated for assignment after making critical comments toward pitcher Jake Arrieta, batted .286 in 44 games with the Cubs in his role as backup catcher.

According to reports, the Cubs will pick up the majority of Montero's $7 million remaining salary.

The Cubs have inquired to the Tigers about the availability of Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander and catcher Alex Avila, sources told MLB.com Monday. The Cubs had a scout in attendance Sunday at Comerica Park, when Verlander started for Detroit with Avila behind the plate.

Cubs turned Eaton, Sale, and Quintana into the Nationals top-2 prospects, the Red Sox's top-2 prospects, and the Cubs' top-2 prospects. And more.
