Game 26: Phillies @ Cardinals, 5/2/2016, 7:15 pm CT

Postby R27 » Mon May 02, 2016 3:35 pm

The Cardinals look to put an end to a four game losing streak with Adam Wainwright (1-3, 7.16 ERA) on the hill facing off against Jeremy Hellickson (2-1, 3.81 ERA).

3B Matt Carpenter
CF Stephen Piscotty
LF Matt Holliday
RF Brandon Moss
C Yadier Molina
1B Matt Adams
SS Aledmys Diaz
2B Kolten Wong
RHP Adam Wainwright

Interesting lineup choices here.

Adams is coming off a strong weekend showing that pushed him to slash line of .282/.349/.487 against RHP.

Piscotty in center field again to make room for Moss and Adams in the lineup.

Grichuk, hitless in the past week, doesn't start.

Hazelbaker, hitting .429 in the past week, doesn't start either.

Wong is coming off back-to-back games with a hit. Hopefully building some momentum.

Wainwright keeps getting closer. Hopefully tonight is the night he gets right.

Wainwright needs to have a good start for himself and the club. Need to win Game #1.... 8-)

Through two innings, Waino is looking like the Waino of previous years.

That third inning though. Both on the mound and on the bases. Ouch.

A walk to lead off the inning. A Fielder's Choice. And then three straight Phillies hits, kicked off by Bourjos and we're looking at a 3-0 game.

Then Wainwright misplayed a deep ball on the bases and then forgot how many outs there were. His head was not in the game. Should have scored at least one in that inning.

ADAM WAINWRIGHT THREE RUN BOMB!

Tie ballgame!

Wainwright's homer had a 105 mph exit speed off the bat. Wow!

In his last three ABs, Wainwright has hit a triple, a double, and a home run. Just needs the single to have hit for the cycle in his previous four ABs.

Also worth reporting, after his last AB, Matt Adams is now hitting .300/.378/.500 against RHP this season.

When Wainwright is done pitching he could always continue his career as a DH.... 8-)

IMO Adams should be starting against all right handed pitching. Sit against lefties.

Adams is now up to .317/.391/.585 this season against RHP.

He is hitting .357/.438/.642 over the last two weeks.

Yes, the platoon situation is perfect role for him. I'd give him some opportunities against lefties, because ultimately he won't learn to hit them without facing them, but not a ton.

Adams has been around for a while now and doesn't hit lefties any better than he did when he first came up. He's almost an automatic out against lefties. I would only have him facing right handed pitching and use Moss against lefties.
