Game 35: Cardinals @ Angels, 5/12/2016, 9:05 pm CT

Postby chevyman58 » Thu May 12, 2016 2:02 pm

---------------------------------------------------------

Adam Wainwright, 2-3, 6.30 vs Jered Weaver, RH, 3-1, 4.72

Waino went 1-3 with a 7.16 ERA over his first five starts. In his last two outing. he's surrendered three runs over six innings in a 10-3 home win over Philadelphia on May 2 and three over 6 1/3 in Saturday's 6-4 win over visiting Pittsburgh.

Waino struggles early - two first-inning runs Saturday and 11 runs over the first four innings in his last four starts.

Weaver has had a stunning dropoff in velocity this year. After allowing a season-high seven runs over five innings in an 8-5 loss at Milwaukee on May 2, he gave up just one earned over six in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay. He had a season-high five strikeouts despite topping out at 83 mph.

Cards have won 5 of last seven games. Piscotty is 9 for 17 over his last four while Molina is 4 for 7 with two doubles in this series.

St. Louis has won nine of its last 12 on the road after an 0-3 start.

Chi Cubs.. 25 - 8 .758 -----

Weaver's throwing Zito-like soft toss out there. So he'll probably go 9 shutout tonight.

What a game. Overall ugly game, but had some high points also. Holliday had two homers and three rbi's, Carp and Adams had three rbi's as well. Waino gave up gave up 7 runs, 6 earned, Maness was terrible giving up 3 runs in a third of an inning, and Rosenthal walked all three hitters he faced. Seigrist came in and saved the day. Cards win 12-10.

Went to bed with the Cardinals up 10-7. Glad they hung on for the sweep. It was not a thing of beauty. Wainwright still getting the ball up, but in his defense there were a few plays behind him that should have been made which allowed the Angels to extend innings and score. Got the W which is what counts in the end.

Off to LA.... 8-)

Waino got a much underserved win IMO. I dunno if he's going to ever be excellent again or not.

I actually stayed awake thru this one. Went to bottom of 9th up 12-7. Maness started the 9th & got rocked (again). Rosie came in & walked 3 straight before MM pulled him. Siegrist came in and saved the day, Cards barely escaped 12-10 leaving bases loaded.

A sweep is a sweep, glad to have it.

Pretty certain Maness has Options left, yes.

Here's the Redbird stats - not sure who next man up is. Tui not exactly stellar - way over 1 baserunner per inning:

Yes, he has options. However, he would have to pass through Optional Assignment Waivers since it's been more than three years since his first call up. It's been reported that there's basically a gentlemen's agreement not to claim anyone off another team's optional assignemtn waivers, but one could also argue it's because nobody juicy enough has hit it. But generally teams don't use then except in rare instances.

Like when the Cardinals needed to make room temporarily and DFA'd Kozma for a day a couple years back before pulling him back and sending him to the minors.

Seth Maness was optioned to Triple-A Memphis prior to the Cardinals' series opener at Dodger Stadium. He'll be replaced in the bullpen by lefty Dean Kiekhefer, who was expected to join the club during Friday night's game.

Hopefully he can work out his issues. Would like to see Kiekhefer succeed and replace Lyons.... 8-)
