The Return Of CMart !!

Carlos Martinez, 4-2, 2.61 vs Scott Kazmir, LH, 2-3, 5.54

Martinez was 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA entering May but has lost his last two starts with five runs and 10 hits allowed in 10 innings.

He had this start pushed back two days as he overcame a respiratory illness that caused him to drop 15 pounds.

Kazmir's allowed nine home runs in his seven starts, all of which have come in four multi-homer games including 2 Monday.

Over their last 4 games Molina is 9-for-16 & Holliday is 9-for-19.

Puig was 3 for 5 with a home run last night after going 3 for 24 without an extra-base hit or RBI the previous seven games.

Chi Cubs.. 26 - 8 .765 ----
Pittsburgh 18 - 16 .529 8.0
St. Louis... 19 - 17 .528 8.0

Great defense we have this year. It'd be funny if it wasn't so bad.

Man ............. this is really, really, really BAD BASEBALL.

That 5th inning was U G L Y. Carlos throws 40 pitches. Then we come in & make Kazmir throw 5 for 3 outs.

Moss looks like he's never played 1B before.

And WHAT was Carp THINKING earlier bunting with men on 1st & 2nd with 1 out ?????

My God ..................... U G L Y

We are a very average ballclub. If starting pitching and defense ever come together we could come together. Until then we'll just keep our heads above quicksand....hopefully.... 8-)

Think about the four teams that have won a series against us: Cubs, Pirates, Nationals, and Dodgers. All expected playoff teams. It's better than losing series' to bad teams like the Braves, Dbacks, and Reds.

Wainwright and Leake have both had their struggles this year. If both of them get back to normal, or some semblance of normal, we'll be fine. But in April, with both sucking, that's 2 out of every 5 games that became really hard to win when you've got starting pitchers with 6+ ERAs. Cardinals went 3-7 in their starts in April. Flip that 3-7 to 7-3 and you're looking at a team that went 16-8 in April, compared to the Cubs' 17-5. Even 5-5 and 14-10 isn't that bad.

They're 6-0 so far in May.

Leake appears to be back in form. Wainwright not so much. Wacha pitching in bad luck, or has had poor defensive play behind him. Garcia has been ok more often than not. Martinez should be fine. Hopefully all will round into a good place.

Still stand by my statement made above. If's are nice, but so is hindsight.... 8-)

Wainwright's been much better in his peripherals in May versus April. Plenty to give hope that he's getting better.

We definitely need Wainwright to find his comfort zone and lead the staff. The sooner the better.... 8-)
