Game 44, Diamondbacks @ Cardinals, 5/22/16, 1:15 CT

Postby chevyman58 » Sun May 22, 2016 8:53 am

Zach Grienke, RH, 4-3, 5.08 vs Jaime Garcia, 3-3, 2.86

Piscotty and Diaz had two hits apiece and Carpenter and Hazelbaker both homered off Greinke in a 12-7 loss at Arizona on April 25.

Since then Grienke has gone 2-1 with a 3.81 ERA over his last four starts.

Greinke had been tough on the Cardinals prior to last month, going 8-2 with a 2.20 ERA over his previous 11 starts.

After giving up no earned runs over 14 innings in winning two consecutive starts, Garcia gave up three and walked four over five innings in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Colorado. He's 5-0 with a 2.94 ERA in six career starts against the DBacks.

Another frickin' loss @ home!

Just hope we don't get any bad news per Garcia, like he's injured or something. That would be all this club needs!

I have a theory that the loss of Oquendo much more impact than anyone would admit. Team often very lethargic, little spark.

No doubt the club misses Oquendo. I was hoping he could at least be in the dugout at some point.

Team just plays flat far too often. Just no Gibson, or Chris Carpenter attitude. Hopefully they'll come together.... 8-)

That was a rough one today.

Definitely agree this club goes flat from time to time. Need one of those veteran guys to light a fire under the club.

This team does lack an edge. Honestly, it's something they've lacked since Chris Carpenter retired. But it's not really like the Cardinals can just go out and sign a guy to be the spark plug. It's something that needs to develop naturally. I thought Lance Lynn could be that guy, but with his injury I'm sure it'd be hard to be that guy. And I'm not even sure how much he's around since he's been hurt.

Garcia faced 16 batters and allowed 10 of them a hit before being pulled after 2 1/3 innings, his shortest start in almost four years.

He allowed a walk while collencting zero strikeouts. His ERA jumped from 2.86 to 3.59.
