NICE start by Wacha! Cubs score SIX RUNS in top of 1st inning.

And Hammel has been very, very good this year.

I dunno what was worse that inning ... Wacha's pitching or Grichuk's defense ...

And here I was thinking pitching was going to be a strong attribute this year. What in the world is going on with these guys?

PLAY OF THE YEAR right there by Diaz. W O W !

If any doubt Peralta needs to play elsewhere that should erase it right there.

You are out of the inning with just 2 scored if he can just get out David Ross.... Then gives up 2 more later before finally getting pulled. Not the same pitcher he was. Gotta wonder if it is something physical or if he still just isn't commanding his fastball like was his problem at the end of last year.

I can't remember where I saw it (I wanna say 538 dot com but can't say for sure) but some sports analysts were breaking down Wacha mid-2015 and were basically pointing out then that he was vastly overrated. I forget now how exactly they had come to that conclusion, but I think they were pointing that it had to do with his accuracy. If opposing hitters simply wait for him to fall behind in the count, which he apparently does (or did at that time), then he's toast. What Wacha throws over the plate is very hittable, and he doesn't force hitters to chase him out of the zone anymore. In short, Wacha's a fluke. We've been waiting for him to regain 2013 form, but all the signs indicate that he's done.

So suddenly the future dream rotation that we had back in 2013 has all but disappeared. Wainwright's washed up. Wacha's a flash-in-the-pan. Joe Kelly's gone. Miller's long gone. Lynn's injured. Garcia's a nothing burger in the playoffs. That leaves Martinez, who's not always stable either.

Wacha has not recorded an out beyond the fourth inning in any of his last three starts.

He has given up 20 runs over those last three short starts.

Wacha is the first Cardinals pitcher since Mike Maroth (2007) to allow six or more runs in three straight starts.
