Last chance here in the 9th, down 2-1. All the scoring on 3 solo HRs.

This team has had very few completely solid performances all season. Either the offense is on fire and the pitching is suspect, or the pitching is strong and the offense is suspect.

As we inch closer to Memorial Day, it looks like this is going to be the norm for this club barring any major roster changes.

Hopefully Alex Reyes can come to the rescue and add some juice to the rotation soon.

Closer to Brewers than to Pirates

No closer to 1st place than last place

Chi Cubs.. 31 - 14 .689 - -
Pittsburgh 27 - 19 .587 4.5 -
St. Louis.. 24 - 24 .500 8.5 4.0
Milwaukee 21 - 26 .447 11.0 6.5
Cincinnati. 15 - 32 .319 17.0 12.5

Here are some recap comments from one year ago of Game 48 2015:

John Lackey is pitching like an ace for a team that lost its top starter Adam Wainwright a month ago. Lackey worked seven scoreless innings and the Cardinals beat the Dodgers 3-0 for their fifth straight victory on Friday night.

.Jon Jay, activated from the 15-day DL before the game, pinch hit in the eighth and fouled off nine pitches before singling off Paco Rodriguez.

The Cardinals moved to 32-16, the best record in MLB. At 19-5 they also own the best home record and lead MLB in team ERA.

Next up tomorrow is Michael Wacha , at 7-0, 1.87 he's tied for the NL lead in wins and his ERA is among the league leaders.

Starting pitching is there difference between the 2 years thus far. Last year a strength. This year not so much....as yet.... 8-)
