CMart vs Lester - Last Game Of Reg Season Between Cubs & Cards - Hoping To See Them In NLDS

Mets blew Phillies off the gridiron today by two touchdowns & a field goal - 17 - 0 !!

Giants & Padres just underway, 0 - 0.

Mets 83 - 73
Giants 82 - 73
Cards 81 - 73

CMart's 15-8, 3.16. He's our best starter & gives us our best shot tonight.

Lester's 18-4, most wins & best winning % in MLB. His ERA 2nd only to his teammate Hendricks.

Lester's 9-2 with a 1.86 in Wrigley this year, he's 1-0, 1.29 vs Cards & beat CMart 11 days ago in St. Louis.

Cards have won 6 of CMart's last 7 starts, the only loss being the one to Lester 11 days ago.

Lester has allowed 2 runs or less and 2 walks or less in each of his last 10 starts.

We GOTTA get thru the 1st inning holding the Cubs scoreless tonight. That's a huge key to this game.

Gotta keep some momentum rolling into the last homestand. Who would have thought we'd be dreading seven games at home against two mediocre teams to decide the season?

I imagine due to very close family relationship with Jose Fernandez. Diaz likely in shock.

As boys on Eighth Street in Santa Clara, Cuba, Fernandez and Diaz would take the two-mile hike to the nearby ballpark for practice. Diaz's father, Rigoberto Diaz, had introduced the game to Fernandez and talked his mother into letting him join the other boys for practice and games. Diaz's uncle, Nelson Diaz, became Fernandez's coach, a treasured instructor who started the righthander on the way toward the majors.

There is a photo that MLB.com got of their team, and in it Aledmys Diaz is on a knee in the middle of the picture. He's smiling and a red hat is propped up on his head. Three kids to his left his a younger boy wearing a yellow hat, his legs crossed, and he appears to have something in his mouth that is just obscuring a wide grin.

That's Fernandez.

I dunno where Matt Carpenter went but this guy impersonating him lately couldn't play any worse if he tried. Every single thing he touches turns to $#%@ night-after-night. It's unbelievable how bad ......................

Lester has gotten about a dozen strike calls a full ball below the zone box, CMart hasn't gotten one. Not one.

Lots of frustration about the strike zone and calls.

Radio was crucifying NY over that last review because it hit the knob of the bat.

That was a bummer of a game. Umpiring has screwed us good against the Cubs this year. Rizzo walks off on strike three in a previous game. Martinez strikes out on a ball four inches inside tonight.

Still, we have to put the ball in play and score. Just have a tough time against this guy. Lester is having a career year. Pitching well against everyone.

We have 7 games left and cannot afford to squander away any opportunities. We're going to need to go 6 of 7 or better to make the playoffs. We'll see what we're made of at home.... 8-)

IMO the Umps, particularly the home plate ump, got caught up in the crowd, the energy, the destiny hype, the Ross Show & the Lester Cy Campaign. Thruout the entire contest Lester was getting call-after-call that CMart wasn't getting. CMart got only 1 call off the edge, Lester got 'em all night. CMart didn't get one call above or below the zone, Lester got that call all night - particularly balls well below the zone. There was a ridiculous disparity on low called strikes. Then he starts callin' strikes up & side-to-side on our guys late repeatedly, yet Broxton only got one of those. And the slider he rang up Martinez on hadn't been a strike all night.

The HBP on Broxton was egregious, ridiculous, outrageous. Who made that call in NYNY - the one-eyed night watchman?????

But the game was right there to turn with Carp up, two on, no outs & Lester looking human. How Carp brain-cramps there on 1st pitch & gets the bat hit to dink into a cake dbl-play is beyond me. He had no clue, he was the most surprised guy in the park. Carp's our fuel, our engine, he makes the bus roll. I don't have any idea why he's completely fallen off the map but we're going nowhere with him completely tanked.

This is second year in-a-row guys have looked burned-out & gassed in the stretch run. This year there's many more that look like that. We have such a slow lineup, we need some energy. We need a spark. I don't buy the gassed excuse, not physically. Old man Molina is going to catch the most innings of anybody & the most in his career & he's hitting in the top of MLB since the AS Break & getting better.

I'm open to considering a managerial change. This team needs a spark going forward, I don't see it on the roster. That being said, had we not lost Diaz & Holliday I think the entire energy of this team is much higher.

Generally frustrated that there doesn't seem to be pitch data from the first five innings last night on Brooks Baseball's Pitch F/X stuff. Cue the conspiracy theories.

Sixth inning on the strike zone was fairly consistent, except for two pitches at the bottom of the zone that both went against the Cardinals. And, of course, the final pitch of the game.

My eyes are under the assumption that ESPN's box is perfectly sync'd for each & every hitter. Maybe in 'n out, but I doubt up 'n down.

I'd rather not have the box, actually.

I remember one game a couple years ago, TBS was experimenting with having the box on the screen for every pitch. That is until there was a rather egregiously missed strike call. The box mysteriously disappeared for the rest of the broadcast except on replays.

In general, I like the box. I do wish the box would fluctuate based on called strike zone. So if pitchers are getting that low strike zone, it would creep larger. So the idea being later in the game, you can see how consistent the strike zone is as the game goes on. Because no umpire calls the rule book strike zone.

The irony is that if they did call the rule book strike zone, offense would jump. For all the talk about wanting more offense in the game, that's the easiest way to do it.
