Game 160: Pirates @ Cardinals, 9/30/16, 8:15 pm CT

Postby R27 » Fri Sep 30, 2016 4:30 pm

It all comes down to this. Cardinals need to sweep to control their own destiny. Elimination number is 3. That means 3 combined Giants wins and Cardinals losses put the Cardinals out of the playoffs.

Cardinals face Tyler Glasnow who made his MLB debut against the Cardinals on July 7th, allowing 4 earned runs over 5 1/3 innings of work. He lasted 3 innings in his last start against the Nationals.

Lineup & Last 10
1B Matt Carpenter (.188/.278/.313, 1 HR, 2 RBI)
SS Aledmys Diaz (.190/.346/.381, 1 HR, 4 RBI)
C Yadier Molina (.441/.444/.618, 1 HR, 7 RBI)
RF Stephen Piscotty (.303/.378/.485, 1 HR, 2 RBI)
3B Jhonny Peralta (.394/.459/.576, 1 HR, 5 RBI)
LF Brandon Moss (.034/.094/.034, 1 RBI)
2B Jedd Gyorko (.214/.267/.500, 2 HR, 4 RBI)
CF Randal Grichuk (.256 /.293/.487, 2 HR, 7 RBI)
RHP Carlos Martinez

Gyorko puts us on top with a solo homer in the 3rd!

It is Gyorko's 29th career home run as a Cardinal, which ties him on the franchise's all time leaderboard with none other than Jon Jay.

Holliday, in what could possibly be his final Cardinals AB, hits a HR to RF. Brought tears to my eyes.

Sure want him to retire a Cardinal. Maybe there is a way for him to return in a different role for less $$?

This is why I still watch every game. EVERY. STINKING. GAME.

The issue is that I think he can still be pretty productive. He can latch on as a DH like Beltran has done and still make some money.

I was good until Molina and Wainwright met him at the top of the dugout. Completely lost it at that point. Mrs. EOCF was a complete wreck.

Giants and Dodgers tied up at 2-2.

Cardinals and Pirates are back in action after the delay.

Between Dee Gordon's homer, Aledmys Diaz's grand slam, and now Matt Holliday. How can you not be romantic about baseball?

And just wow to that Holliday HR. I hope that is his last AB here this year at least.

It started misting the minute he went down the stairs to the clubhouse. Seriously. A fitting tribute.

Mets & Giants win big again.
