Need to finish off the road trip on the right note. Back home Friday to face the Cubbies. I guess that'll give us a taste of whether this team has really hit their stride or just taken care of the teams they should.

Hope Cardinals keep the momentum going tonight heading into the Cubs series. Also hope they keep Sierra with the club for the weekend at least. His speed could make a difference at some point in the series.

Fowler w/ a PH triple to drive in guess who....Pham & Sierra to give the Cards a 5-4 lead in the 6th. Sure would like to ride this wave a bit longer.

Sierra's been on base 8 times in four games. The last 7 of those times he's come around to score. That other time, he was picked off first on a play that probably should have been reviewed.

Oh on for the save!

Looked like it was going to be a rough night for Lynn after that 1st inning. Settled in pretty nicely after that though throwing three shutout innings.

Cecil still baffles me, thought he was a much better pitcher last year than what he's shown when I've seen him this year.

He's really struggled this year.

Among relievers who have inherited at least 10 runners this season he is 5th worst in baseball at keeping them from scoring. He has been, by far, the worst Cardinal reliever in that role this season. It almost feels a bit like, and even some commentary from Dan last night reinforces this, that he's trying to justify the $30 million contract by using Cecil in that high leverage fireman role and it's not one that he's had a tremendous amount of success in the past few years.

A league average inherited runners scored rate is about 28% over the past few years. Cecil is at 56% right now this year, and he was 32% his last two years in Toronto. But at his current rate, he'll be three inherited runners away from his career high at the All Star Break.

I think his best value is going to be found as mostly a clean inning setup guy. Unfortunately, that's not how Mike is using him.

I vote to send Cecil down until he gets his $30M act together.

Cecil has been my least-favorite call to the pen since day one. And with Broxton out there that's pretty bad.
