Game 70: Cardinals @ Phillies, 6/21/17, 6:05 pm

Postby R27 » Wed Jun 21, 2017 1:16 pm

RHP Michael Wacha (3-3, 4.78 ERA) vs RHP Nick Pivetta (1-3, 4.46 ERA)

MLB.com Preview

Sounds like this could be Wacha's final shot to right the ship before they start considering other options. How convenient it comes against the worst team in the league, eh?

Because of the way this team has been playing, I've been given a chance to "live like a rich man" at busch stadium and go, where I have never gone before..an all-inclusive suite "The Red Jacket Club" brand new this year in Right field along the foul pole. I'll be in seat 1, Row D with access to free food and free beer/coke etc. even if the cardinals don't show up this time for the Sunday Night "Game of the World" I still will have a great time living the high-life..for one night

I guess Pham's new contacts came in. Two homers tonight. The second ties up the game in the 9th.

Yeah, Wacha's poor showing & Garcia's errors put the Cardinals in a 5-0 hole. 4 HR's later has tied it up.

Pham also has 2 OF assists gunning runners down @ home plate. The last one in the bottom of the 9th to end the inning. Having one helluva night.

Martinez doubles to start the top of the 10th and is balked to 3B. Let's take the lead & close this thing out.

I mean it's always great to get the win but another sloppy game that took 2 runners thrown out at home to push it to extras against an awful team.

Man, I love Tommy Pham. Hits two home runs, the last tied up the game. Has two outfield assists. Only 14 players in MLB history has ever had two home runs and two outfield assists in the same game. Post game interview and he's visibly pissed about striking out three times.

I saw that too. Hayes was pretty much in shock and it ended up being a little awkward. Pretty funny.

I love that kind of emotion, especially when a player has the ability to channel it as it seems Pham does. Chris Carpenter had that same ability.

The real question is when Matheny will finally decide to put the team's best hitter in the fourth spot in the batting order.

I like a lot about Tommy Pham, but the thing that worries me is how dependent he seems on the contact lenses. He goes into a little slump, orders new lenses and then seems to take off again. At what point do they stop working? Just makes it hard to rely on him to be a regular contributor long term in my mind.
