Gyorko drives in a run in the first. Pham makes a great catch at the wall in center field to keep the 1-0 lead. DeJong sacrifices one home in the 6th.

Martinez runs into trouble in the sixth as the Dbacks tie it up 2-2.

Dbacks show the Cardinals their 2017 Cardinals impression in the 7th. Voit singles. Carpenter bunts, thrown away. Pham hits it to the pitcher, thrown away. Piscotty hits it off the pitcher, Cards take the lead back.

Then Descalso (playing LF) misplays a ball and Cards score two more. 5-2 Cards in the top of the 7th.

And then the pen implodes and they lose 6-5. Another very good Martinez start wasted.

What a crappy game to stay up to 1 am to watch. Ugh, thought we had that one.

Rosenthal's lost some velocity and his walk rate is spiking again. So whatever "fixed" him is broken again. And Oh isn't fooling anyone right now.

But hey guys, our leader of men says that they are fine and the shaky offense is due to so many "young" hitters.

The only person who plays somewhat consistently that I'd say that about is DeJong. But what do I know?

He did that at WWU, blamed so many young players for the team's struggles when they were consistently outperforming their veteran counterparts.

DeJong is hitting .319 with four home runs since he got called back up and has a hit in 10 of 12 games he's played. Out performing and outplaying a more experienced Diaz who he should rightfully start over when Wong returns.

Pham has slowed, hitting just .250 with three home runs over the last 10 games, but has been stellar in center field and really made the case that he should start in CF even when Fowler returns. He single handedly saved a run last night.

Voit is hitting .400 in his three games and his pinch hit kicked started a three run inning thanks to some Dbacks miscues.

Grichuk went 0-for last night, but his first at bat lined out to the outfield, based on league averages, about 65% of line drives are hits.

Piscotty hitting .303 with 2 home runs in the last 10 games.

I think our young hitters are doing just fine.

If the team really is going to sell, Mo has so many options now it seems. I would add Diaz to that list depending on if someone else feels that he is more the player he was last year.

Along with Lynn, Oh, Rosenthal, Gyorko, Grichuk, or even Carpenter. With the likelihood of a deal becoming less and less as that list went on.

I've written in the past that the frustration with the Cardinals is that they don't commit to a path, so i wouldn't expect too much selling. They're not all in on this year and they're not all in on three years from now. They're kind of in this situation of trying to win now without sacrificing winning three years from now, which won't really work consistently when you're playing teams that have committed to one path or another. The Cardinals have a logjam of average talent, they're going to need to take some risk to get above average talent in here.

Rosenthal and Oh would be in demand. I'd consider trading Carpenter for a few prospects and go in on a couple years down the road. The future with what's in house in 2019 and 2020 looks nice if we can get there. But so much can change.

I lock up Lynn for five more years. Gyorko has maintained his performance much better than I ever expected him to as well.

Yeah, I don't expect anything at this point other than maybe Lynn and Oh since they are rentals. It would be nice if they actually did something to potentially move the needle in the future but I don't see it happening.

I have this dream scenario where the Yankees get Carpenter and a reliever and the Cards get Torres and Greg Bird.

Turning point of that game was CMart walking DD on 4 pitches with 2 outs to face a hitter who'd crushed him all night. Then did so again.

OK, they gave us 3 runs back & we crapped-em away. But night-after-night these mental checkouts, the consistency by which our pitchers do the exact opposite of Baseball 101 time & time again, it's just ridiculous.

If I had a dollar for every time our pitchers threw up a meatball on an 0-2 count I'd have a buncha cash.
