And Matheny must have gotten his medical marijuana card while in California...

2B Kolten Wong
CF Harrison Bader
SS Paul DeJong
1B Matt Carpenter
C Yadier Molina
RF Stephen Piscotty
3B Greg Garcia
LF Randal Grichuk
RHP Jack Flaherty

Pham out because of a swollen finger from his headfirst slide into second last night.

Piscotty is quite possibly the worst player in the National League and possibly the entire Major Leagues.

Hope he goes back to the dispensary this morning & gets a few more buds, musta been the Comeback Magic Puff strain.

Cards score 2 in the 7th, 1 in the 8th, 6 in the 9th for the 11-6 Win. The weed was so good that Molina got the 7th Triple of his career.

Piscotty goes 3-for-5 with a 9th inning Bomb, 2 RBI & 3 Runs Scored.

Tulcard wrote:Would have rather seen Sierra than Bader called up for sure. I don't see any PT for Bader unless we are totally out of it.

Bader gets the start, hits his 1st career HR, goes 2-for-4 with 2RBI & 2 Runs Scored.

Piscotty turned in a decent game after a shaky start. Still one of the worst players in the league.

Bader & Piscotty both get dissed. Both turn in fine games. Formula still works.

Still, Lyons for closer.

We may not care for him these days, but he's certainly not one of the worst players in the NL. He's not even anywhere near one of the worst players among the 120 players recognized as NL outfielders so far this season. Looks like top 1/2 or better by most statistical analysis.

Yeah no idea where that thought came from. He is struggling this year but I doubt he can be considered a bad player, let alone one of the worst in the league. He hasn't turned into the bad Allen Craig yet.

This year he’s been terrible defensively, he’s atrocious on the base paths, he’s done little to nothing at the plate. The guy hasn’t been good at all this year. Hopefully it’s just a blip. But I’m not convinced that he’s anything much more than what he’s shown.

The fact that the Cards tried to move him let’s me believe that they don’t think highly of him either.

The guy's had a lot on his plate this year with much of it being personal. I'd cut the man some slack. Hopefully he'll be back to himself next season.

Surprised no one mentioned the Cardinals hitting 4 triples in the game. Quite a feat.

How many games have you watched this year MT? Just the other night he made two phenomenal catches.

Have you seen Fowler play much CF this year? Now THAT'S terrible. He makes Piscotty look like Willie Mays.

(I've watched all or most of about 125 games or-so this year fyi).

But I'm not thrilled with him this year, nor as a franchise cornerstone either.

Chev, I’ve watched plenty of ball this year. Unfortunately a lot of it has been bad. Is Piscotty the only offender? No. But he has been terrible this year by every measure. I refuse to go all Mike Matheny and hand the guy kudos because he made a nice catch or two. Last I checked, that’s what he’s supposed to do.

And I’m not gonna give him a break because of his family situation. Yes it’s difficult, but he has a job to do. And this year, he hasn’t done that job very well.

If you are satisfied with Piscotty’s 2017 performance, good for you. I’m not. If he’s on the roster next year, I hope he has a better year. But given his performance since the second half last year, I think he’s nothing more than a guy that’s gonna hit .240-.250 with marginal power, below average defense and horrible base running ability.

Piscotty's fielding has generally gotten better this year, he's been hit or miss offensively. I do think much of it is what's going on in his personal life. Even for us having something like that going on would impact our job performance and I'm pretty sure none of us do something as difficult as trying to hit a 3" ball thrown 100 mph with a 2.5" bat. So while far from satisfied with his results this year, I will give him a break this year after seeing what his family has been dealing with. It's up to the manager to see the problem and deal with it.

This is the problem with Matheny's completely off the wall stuff. It seems to work. Reinforces it as a good idea in his mind.

Though Carpenter did go 0-for-4 in the cleanup spot. The man has such a huge mental block outside the leadoff spot.

Piscotty was terrible the second half last year. And yes while I’m sure his family situation is weighing on him, I’m pretty certain he’s not the first professional athlete to have to perform while dealing with some of the field adversity.
