Can the Cards at least avoid the sweep today?

Now sitting 5 back in the division and 4.5 back in the WC. Brewers in front of us in both races as well.

I don't know. Still have hope, but I think this team has too many flaws to overcome.

I mean, Lynn could throw a complete game shutout and we could still find a way to lose against these guys. Anyway....my weekly appeal....please re-sign Lance Lynn.

Heyward somehow faced a RHP in a late game high leverage situation in likely the biggest game of the remaining season with expanded rosters. Incredible.

FYI his avg vs lefties higher than righties this season.

If searching for legitimate MM criticisms - first & foremost one today is not to be playing an injured Carp with 35 guys in the dugout. He had a Golden Sombrero today & his double was a routine out for any MLB LF'r except Kyle Schwarber, Matt Adams or Jose Martinez. AND ya let him hit vs a lefty late with 2 outs & bases loaded after already striking out 3 times. And, of course, he struck out. Shouldn't be playing, sure shouldn't be hitting there with a .198 BA vs lefties which he compiled without an injured shoulder.

What was this....our 28th-30th one run loss? I've lost count. Same storyline....we had our chances, but couldn't come through. This team just doesn't have it.

We need a few key pieces you guys in management. Feared, impact bat. Closer, rework bullpen and um....re-sign Lance Lynn. Get it done. The players and we fans deserve it.

Average is close in a small sample this year. He is still a worse hitter agaijst lefties this year even with slightly higher BA. He is trash against lefties and the league knows it. Zero reason he should ever face a RHP late in a close game that matters if the team has plenty of pitchers.

Btw not blaming him for the loss. Clearly from looking through the play by play the offense blew lots of chances. Just pointing out another pretty clear mistake.

And apparently I wasn't the only one that noticed it yesterday.

Nothing new there, been a running theme for years now. Just beat & beat & beat the same, poor, dead horse. Very easy to do. Just as it's easy to go online & find many others who are like-minded. Google 'Nazi' or 'KKK', buncha folks there think alike too.

What was new yesterday, for those who truly care about analysis & actual varied discussion was the issue of Carp being in the lineup, and hitting there in the 8th. To me, that's more interesting than harping on the same thing, game-after-game, week-after-week, year-after-year.

At the end-of-the-day many of us, me included, don't think the Cards are on the right track - for a myriad of reasons including the Manager/Coaching staff. He can go, I said that months ago. But sliding in Sparky Anderson, Jim Leland, Francona, Maddon or Connie Mack doesn't fix this team. There's much, much more to it than that. It's surprising to me that so many choose to continually & consistently post so one-dimensional, and in many cases exclusively, to bitch & moan about the same one component out of dozens & dozens over & over & over.

The main thing I was texting back n forth with my Cubs buddies late-game yesterday was that it took 3 hrs & 40 minutes to play 8 innings of 4-3 baseball. Absolutely ridiculous. They gotta get these game times down, commercial breaks shorter than 1/2 innings would be a good start. It's gotten absolutely ridiculous, after 50+ years it's burning even me out. Games Are Too Long In Time!

We have this conversation all the time. The Cardinals are not headed in the right direction, but the manager isn't doing them any favors. How many tight games has Matheny gone to the bullpen and brought in the one guy everyone watching knows is probably going to blow the game? I can think of two right off the top of my head, but I know there are more, those are just the two I can give you chapter and verse on. Last year flipping two games would have made this team a playoff team.

So a manager who made decisions marginally better than Matheny would have made the playoffs last season and at the very least we'd be closer this season.

I've seen a lot of credit given to Matheny in the media this year for managing the club with all this upheaval on the roster. I don't understand why. The Cardinals are doing what they're doing because of the core of a Triple-A team that was like 20+ games above .500. Matheny didn't take a rag-tag group of scrubs and challenge for a playoff spot.

My point is I participate for 'discussion' about Cardinals Baseball. ALL aspects of it.

I don't find it interesting to 'discuss' the same ONE issue over & over & over & over endlessly.

FIRE HIM.

Doesn't anybody want to ever talk about anything else?????????????Image
