$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Jon Lester, LH, 11-8, 4.56 vs Luke Weaver, 7-1, 2.05

Chicago's magic number to clinch the NL Central is two.

The Cubs are 11-4 against the Cardinals so far this season, including a three-game sweep just over a week ago.

The Cubs have a 44-23 record since the All-Star break, the best record in the NL & second only to the Indians.

Starting lineups with offensive stats last 30 days.

CHICAGO CUBS (87-68)
CF Jon Jay (.326/.370/.395, 0 HR, 7 RBI, 104 wRC+)
3B Kris Bryant (.327/.438/.571, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 163 wRC+)
1B Anthony Rizzo (.309/.415/.546, 4 HR, 24 RBI, 145 wRC+)
C Willson Contreras (.286/.444/.321, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 119 wRC+)
LF Ben Zobrist (.266/.348/.430, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 101 wRC+)
SS Addison Russell (.263/.391/.421, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 120 wRC+)
RF Jason Heyward (.280/.360/.400, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 102 wRC+)
2B Javier Baez (.264/.333/.391, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 84 wRC+)
LHP Jon Lester

ST LOUIS CARDINALS (81-74)
1B Matt Carpenter (.250/.427/.559, 6 HR, 8 RBI, 159 wRC+)
LF Tommy Pham (.338/.459/.663, 6 HR, 18 RBI, 193 wRC+)
CF Dexter Fowler (.277/.365/.523, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 131 wRC+)
SS Paul DeJong (.223/.292/.398, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 82 wRC+)
C Yadier Molina (.256/.313/.453, 3 HR, 24 RBI, 99 wRC+)
3B Jedd Gyorko (.222/.300/.278, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 59 wRC+)
RF Stephen Piscotty (.250/.329/.397, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 88 wRC+)
2B Kolten Wong (.176/.317/.265, 1 HR, 5 RBI 63 wRC+)
RHP Luke Weaver

I would argue that Diaz or Garcia deserve a look at third before Gyorko does right now. And maybe even at second before Wong.

Baez three run HR in the 3rd. Cubs up 8-1 in the middle of 3.

If that score stands, the Cardinals are eliminated from the division and the Cubs' magic number will be 1 since the Brewers had the night off.

Gyorko 2 for 2 with a HR. Fowler 2 for 3. Everybody else 0-for thru 5. 8-1 Chicago.

At least Weaver took 3 innings to give up 8 ER, Lynn did it in 2/3's of an inning. :)

Molina takes a pair of foul balls off the mask back-to-back. Cardinals announce he is in the concussion protocol.

The Cardinals erected metal barricades along the sidewalks surrounding Busch Stadium and Ballpark Village ahead of the final homestand because of protests following the acquittal of former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley.

Cards end up with 6 hits, lose 10-2.

Gyorko 3-for-3 with a HR.
Fowler 2-for-3.
Voit 1-for-1 with a HR

Rest of team 0-for-26

After reaching a season-high 9 games over .500 & getting back in it they've lost 3 straight, with Lynn & Weaver both getting torched.

Rockies lose to Miami. Cardinals remain 2 1/2 games behind Colorado for the final WC berth. Brewers gained 1/2 game on Rockies and are 1 1/2 games behind.

Will take a miracle for this Cardinals team to gain traction & overtake 2 clubs, but there is a very slim chance. Cubs have owned the Cardinals this season. They will have to flip the script and sweep them & the Brewers to have a chance. Like I said....slim chance.
