Strong is gone at UT. ( I believe his buyout is in excess of 10 million ) Should Herman be hired by Texas you will undoubtedly see an immediate impact he will have on their program.... 8-)

Texas football coach Charlie Strong has been fired after three seasons with the Longhorns. Texas announced the decision in a release on Saturday morning, the day after the Longhorns regular-season finale loss against TCU.

From Texas Athletic Director Mike Perrin:

“Decisions like this are tough to make. The responsibility is not taken lightly. I became friends with Charlie Strong before becoming Athletics Director. I have the utmost personal respect for him. His impact on college athletics and student-athletes should be celebrated. Coach Strong represented The University of Texas with class and dignity, and he demanded our student-athletes do the same by adhering to his system of core values. However, after thorough evaluation, the body of work over three seasons has not shown the improvement we were hoping for. This was an important year for our program to take the next step, and the results simply aren’t there, so we’ve decided to make a change. We appreciate Coach Strong so much, are grateful for all he has done with our program and wish him the best in the future.”

Looks like Tom Herman could be the new coach by the end of the weekend. Good move by Texas to identify who they want, back up a dump truck of money to their house and get it done. They definitely did not need a drawn out coaching search.

Texas has hired Houston coach Tom Herman.

The news came less than an hour after Texas announced it was parting ways with Charlie Strong after three seasons. The school officially announced Herman’s hire Saturday afternoon and said a press conference with the new coach would be forthcoming on Sunday.

“The opportunity to come back to Texas is a dream come true for me and my family, and I can’t thank President [Greg] Fenves and [athletic director] Mike Perrin enough for providing me with this incredible opportunity,” Herman said in a statement. “Longhorn football has been – and always will be – a national power, winning and playing for national championships with great pride and passion, supported by an unbelievable fan base.”

Isn't that pretty much what happened with Strong?

Regardless, that team is in far better shape than it was when Strong came onboard. I hate to see him go, but honestly, I get a strong "too many cooks in the kitchen" vibe with Texas. Too many people want a finger in the football team. Until they simplify that, I can't see them having national championship contending type success.

Love Charlie, great guy, honorable man in what he accomplished.

He was an extremely poor X's & O's football coach, in-game management really bad, halftime adjustments non-existent.

He got a very wide lane for success here, ton of tolerance. Don't believe all the hogwash the Nat'l Media feeds ya. He was given every chance to succeed here & every chance to stay. But ya can't go into Kansas, one of the worst D! teams in the country, in your 36th game here, and get beat. And then get absolutely blown off your home turf by a lousy TCU team in last game of your 3rd season. No way, no how.

Worst coaching record in Texas history over comparable time frame over 29 head coaches. Loss to Kansas set a buncha u-suck records that had stood since the 1930s - and that includes many very good Kansas teams.

There's no more fingers in the pie here than any of the prominent programs across the FBS. But when you suck for 6-7 years, and are still getting worse every year, voices are going to get more numerous as well as louder.

Yeah, not the best of decisions. I doubt if much comes of it. Possibly a mild suspension and community service.... 8-)
